Republicans Used to be So Much Nicer. What Happened?

I think both parties have undergone changes for the worst compared with the past with some exception.

Too bad you can't just merge the best ideals from the Republicans and the Democrats and form a completely new party that's genuinely worthwhile, rather than the defacto formations bearing a different name which basically at the core, remain carbon copies ripped off the same rotton ole branch.

The Demopublicans???

The Reds are no longer the same party they used to be. In the days when I could tolerate them, they were so much nicer. What happened?

I think one of the reasons is that, since the 1980s, the Left has been in decline. Without the Left to check them, the Right has been free to swing further and further towards the lunatic bin.

I would say the Democrats have a lunatic running for president. And it appears that the supposed anointed one is attempting to go farther left than him. However, I agree that there is a very vocal segment on both sides of the isle and that is what each side is catering to.

I would suggest that in the race for sheer lunacy, the Republicans have a very commanding lead. With Trump and Cruz polling at about 50% combined, I would suggest that at least half of the Republican voters have slipped beyond "lunacy" and gone to the level of "insanity".

And you don't think Sanders has gone off the deep end? How is socialism working in Venezuela?

Well, it's probably best to do some reading up on "socialism", and here's a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism

There are many different forms of "socialism", and the last time I heard Venezuela wasn't in Scandinavia, and it's the Scandinavian models that Bernie feels are better for us.

Personally, I think Bernie needs to drop the "Socialist" from his platform altogether. Most people are too ignorant of the word and run for the hills when it's mentioned. I think he may be trying to distance himself a bit from the word but he's still asked questions about his definition of what a Socialist is. Either way, for him to win, that word needs to go away. It's not useful to him at this point in time.

I hear ya, but it's pretty hard to put the genie back into the bottle. Instead, I think he needs to do what he has been doing, namely referring to his approach as "democratic socialism" and "Scandinavian-style socialism".

OK, now's here where we can place a wager: how long will it take before some Republican releases a photo or video of Bernie's face imposed with the Soviet hammer-and-sickle? Whaddya think?

But if Trump's followers do that, Bernie's supporters can put Trump's picture next to that of an orangutan's and see if anyone can tell the difference?

BTW, not to defend the Venezuelan leadership in any way, but their economic crash is mostly to do with the falling oil prices, the profits of which Venezuela is heavily dependent on.

I say you have superior prognostic powers. :)

I'm unconfortable with that, personally. It feels a bit too much like deception.

Can you give me an example of such hard Democratic Socialists? I get the sense that they are essentially unknown in US politics.
