Well everyone has their own opinion on which to follow. Generally there is Sunni, Shia, and there millions of other fractions that don't conform to either.

As a Muslim who believes in the Messiah, for me the True Islam is that which came to eradicate all sects.

Hi Mitchdolop . I think you may need to clarify whether you eager to learn Shia Islam or Sunni Islam . These are a far way different than one another .

When people think over the differences they become greater while in essence they are not. We and especally a non-muslim studying Islam need to focus on commonalities which form the basis of Islam. The concepts of belief such as monotheism, prophethood, hereafter and the practices such as salah/prayers, duas/supplications, sawm/fasting, hajj/pilgrimage, qurban/sacrifice, zakah-khums/charity, etc.

Honestly, the best way to learn is to actually go for classes. I would suggest learning about mainstream Islam (what majority muslims adhere to) and then look at the minorities. The problem with simply going online is that you are subject to your own understanding of what you read, and thus you can be confused and not even know it.

I would suggest learning about mainstream Islam (what majority muslims adhere to) and then look at the minorities [after being brainwashed and taught that all other schools are rubbish you should not waste time learning them!]

Brainwashed? That's highly dismissive isn't it? So just because someone doesn't choose your sect they're brainwashed? It can't be because they spent some time actually learning and thinking about it?

OP didn't even say he had any intention of converting, maybe it was just to understand muslims better. In such case it would still make more sense to study what the large majority of muslims adhere to first.

I made no attempt in tainting any of the sects, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to say such things in your post.
