Why is the spiritual nourishment hidden? What about the amulet?

It is for us to seek out. God gives gifts to those who earnestly seek him.

The amulet is symbolic of our eternal life and new existence when Christ returns and our new lives begin.

I agree... but I don't get the context... he claims these things are for "the victors".... how does one become a "victor" without the spiritual nourishment (wisdom and understanding, strength and love) already being present in their lives?

It is merely a promise to give strength in times of need. Saying that he will not abandon those that stay true. He is promising more and more and more of his strength etc.

So Christ says "to the victors".... but what he really meant to say was "to everyone"... that it?

You're kinda all over the place....

You've "explained" this as:
  • something we will recieve----> but only if we seek it out
  • we must seek it out ----> but God gives it as a "gift"
  • it is for the victors -----> but that means everyone
Huh?

He rode to his death on a donkey he will return to conquer on a horse.
Huh... all the versions in my e-Sword read that He walked rather than rode to His death.
As for the donkey riding - yes, He rode into Jerusalem on the colt, but it was not to die as the time had not yet come for that. He actually left the city that evening.

Maybe I'll come back to that.... I've always been curious about this verse:

Rev 2:17 "... To the victor I shall give some of the hidden manna; I shall also give a white amulet upon which is inscribed a new name, which no one knows except the one who receives it."'

Scott, I know that Adil is the one answering questions in this but I thought you might find our (LDS) explanation of this verse interesting, if for no other reason than to give a possibility to consider and begin some research (see the OT verses listed below)

D&C 130:10-11(LDS scripture)
10 Then the white stone mentioned in Revelation 2:17, will become a Urim and Thummim [see exodus 28:30, Lev. 8:8, deut 33:8, 1 sam. 28:6, ezra 2:63] to each individual who receives one, whereby things pertaining to a higher order of kingdoms will be made known;
11 And a white stone is given to each of those who come into the celestial kingdom, whereon is a new name written, which no man knoweth save he that receiveth it. The new name is the key word.

OK Adil,
I have a ton of questions about revelations. Here they go:

1. Ch.1:6 - who does it mean by making us kings and priests?
2. Ch.1:18 - what does he mean by keys of hell and death? Why would God need keys?
3. Ch.2:5 - what are the first works and why is God commanding them to do works?
4. Ch.2:7 - what is the tree of life?
5. Ch.2:11- what is the second death? what was the first death?
6. Ch.2:28 - what is meant when it says "I will give him the morning star" ?
7. Ch.3:4 - what garment is this verse talking about? what does it mean to defile it?
8. Ch.3:12 - How can Jesus have a God? Who is it? (can you be your own God?)
9. Ch.3:21 - did Christ invite us to sit on his throne with him? Is this blasphemy?
10.Ch.4:4 - why are there 24 elders? I thought Jesus only had 12 disciples? where did the other 12 come from ???
11.Ch.4:6 - what do the beasts full of eyes symbolize?
12.Ch.4:7 - what do the four beasts symbolize?
13.Ch.5:6 - what are the seven Spirits of God that were sent to the earth?
14.Ch.5:7 - what is the significance of the book being in the right hand? Does it have anything to do with justice and Mercy?
15.Ch.5:10 - who will there be to reign over for the kings and priests? why are they reigning at all when we are just supposed to go to heaven and worship God?
16.Ch.5:12 - how could Jesus be slain to gain power if he was already omnipotent?
17.Ch.7:2 - what is the seal of the living God?
18.Ch.7:4 - who are the 144,000 and what do they do? (called servants of God).
19.Ch.8:1 - what is the silence spoken of?
20.Ch.8:10 - is this a nuke?
21.Ch.9:1 - is the star fallen from heaven satan(see v.11)? who gave him a key? why would anyone do such a thing?
22.ch.10:7 - what is the mystery of God being spoken of here?
23.Ch.10:10 - what is the meaning of the book being bitter and sweet, what is the book?
24.Ch.11:3 - who are the two witnesses? why do they prophesy for 3.5 years?
25.Ch.11:7 - why would God allow them to be killed? what is the purpose?
26.Ch.12:1- who/what is the woman?
27.Ch.12:7 - how did satan fight a war in heaven? what was he doing there in the first place?
28.Ch.12:8 - why does it say satan didn't have a place in heaven any more? wouldn't that mean that he had a place there at some point? (see also vs. 9-13).

Ok. that should be enough for a while. when you are ready for me to continue, let me know. I would love to learn all of this stuff.

What is the meaning of the seven churches?

"Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea."

The Horse symbolizes victory.

Wow, you must have the power of the Holy Spirit. Snowbear asked for the literal meaning and you gave the symbolic meaning and Snowbear went for it. That's power.

I am not all over the place. I just think you want to find a flaw in my explanation so badly that you aren't thinking about what I am saying. I thought you would understand it a little easier. I can go into more detail if it is necessary.

God will give this gift freely to those that seek it out. The victors are the ones that stay strong and resist the temptation of this world. You become a victor by following God, and doing His will.

I can't explain it any better that that.

He came to die. He rode a Donkey. The donkey is a symbol used in the Bible to show his humble nature. You are kind of taking my statement too literally.

The 7 Churches were actual churches. These Letters were written to them to correct problems in the churches, and to guide them. These letters are included in the Bible because they are still relevant to the churches that exist today. The warnings apply today just the same as they did when they were first written.

Hope this Helps

Not looking for anything but a clear explaination.... I don't believe the Bible can is open for personal interpretation, but it's nice to see what the Spirit is revealing to you... that's it, no evil intentions.:D
God will give this gift freely to those that seek it out. The victors are the ones that stay strong and resist the temptation of this world. You become a victor by following God, and doing His will.
Amen... I agree, but I also believe you are trying to force your theology into this context.... all I'm saying is that your explaination, however correct in principle, does not seem to flow from this particular group of verses.
If you don't have anything constructive to add, you should just not add anything.
Quite right.

** MOD POST **
If you don't have a specific question relating to the OP, I would appreciate it if you didn't post a critisism or commentary about it.

Thanks all,
Scott

Ok. that should be enough for a while. when you are ready for me to continue, let me know. I would love to learn all of this stuff.

1. "Kings" and "Priests" not in the eyes of man but in the eyes of God. Through the power of the truth of God. All of the people that spread the Word of God and the Love of God are "Priests" in Gods kingdom. We are "Kings" because we have authority through the power of God to conquer the enemy (Satan).
2. The "keys" represent the power of death. Jesus took the "power" away from death when he died on the cross. Before Christ death Satan had the "keys".
3. Doesn't tell the specific works. But it is very easy to assume that the works are the same works we are responsible for doing today in our church. Sharing the Gospel and Love Of Christ. The Works are necessary. If a church doesn't share the message or help those in need....well what good is the church?
4. There were two trees in the Garden of Eden. One was the Tree of Life, and one was the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. After Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they were not allowed to eat of the Tree of Life. Once evil is destroyed and believers are brought into a restored paradise everyone will eat of the Tree of Life.
5. All of man will experience a physical death (the first death). After the physical death we will all be resurrected to face judgment. The believers will recieve everlasting life and the unbelievers will suffer a second death, from which they will never return.
6. Christ is called the Morning Star (Rev 22:16). A morning star appears just before dawn, when the night is at its coldest and darkest. This is a symbolism of how Christ will return, a light in the darkness when the world is at its worst.
7. The garment is our soul. To defile it means to not "honor" it. Give in to sin or temptation.
8. God is Jesus' Father. Jesus is the Son of God. We cannot be our own God.
9. If you had a Child, wouldn't you want to share everything you had with him or her. God loves us soo much that he want to share all of his Kingdom with us. Don't misunderstand, he still is "King".
10. Because there were 12 Tribes of Isreal in the Old Testament and 12 Apostles in the New Testament. They represent all of those both Jew and Gentile that are part of God's family.
11 &12. The four creatures mentioned represent the qualities and character of God. The Lion (majesty and power), the Ox (faithfulness), the Human (intelligence), and the Eagle (sovereignty), all guard the Throne of God, lead others in worship, and proclaim the Holiness of God.
13. The “sevenfold Spirit of God” (not "seven spirits") is another name for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our comforter and guide. He was sent to us by God after Jesus left the earth. He guides us and strengthens us, and through him in us God works miracles and manifest his power on earth. The “seven stars”, again are the leadership in our Churches, and the church in Sardis.
14. The "right" represents the "faithful". The left represent the lost.
15. We will reign over the Earth.
16. He was obedient and defeated Satan and Death. He gained power by defeating Satan and fulfilling God's plan.
17. A "seal" on a scroll or document identifies and protects that document or scroll. God claims us and protects us by puting His "seal" on us.
18. The 144,000 are the believers that will be left on earth after the rapture, to share the Word of God with the people until the last person that will accept it does so. Then it will be over and the final Judgment will arrive.
19. Silence represents Honor to God for His power and might. Silence also represents Trust and Confidence.
20. This is something I am not sure about. Could be many things. Sorry. I will try and find this out.
21. Well verse 1 and 11 speak of different things. In verse 1 this star could be Satan, a Fallen Angel, Christ, or a Good Angel. Verse 1 said the Star held the keys to the Shaft of the Bottomless Pit. This key is normally held by Christ. The key was temporarilly given to this other being. But this being is still under the power and control of God's authority. Then pit represents the place of the demons and Satan.
22. The "mysterious plan" is the removal of all evil and the final Glorifying of Christ. It is mysterious because some of the visions given to John and also Daniel were not to be revealed to any other person. They were to remain secret. Also mysterious is the fact that no man will know the hour in which the final return will come.
23. The scroll that John ate was filled with judgment. To believers the judgment is sweet because it represents victory, but it sours our stomach becsue of the judgment that we will have to pronounce on the unbelievers. It will be a bitter sweet day. Happy but Sad.
24. The descriptions of the two seem to resemble Moses and Elijah. The 3 1/2 years is half of the perfect number 7. This is the time that God has given.
25. This is something I am not sure about. I think that it is going to be a warning for the non believers that their chances are running out. This is not clear to me. Sorry.
26. The woman represents God's faithfull people that have been waiting for Christ.
27 & 28. Before this time Satan was able to go back and forth from His Kingdom (not with God, but not on Earth) and Earth. After this battle he was banished and could not leave Earth.

Hope This Helps

God Bless

Adil
