Revelation is something where a world view undergoes a radical shift or deepening in perspective. The worse revelations conflict with reality causing lots of pain to those who have it and others. The better ones help people solve problems.

Revelation is for people who don't believe that the gods are around us all the time and that anyone can communicate with them successfully. It's for people that want an intermediary or authority figure on the gods to look up to. Maybe it's that they don't trust their own reasoning and experiences. Maybe their religion taught them that only certain special people can communicate with the gods. It could be a lot of things.

Only God can create, that means that no being, not even angels, not even Jesus, is capable of original thought. You think you can do it but you can't. Try it, post something that you think is an original thought.

What you can do is mix things that already exist. Humans are good at it but what you cannot do is think of something truly original.

At times, humans receive revelation from angels and at times from God. God controls the information in order to control your evolution into a Sentient Universal Being. God does not wish for His children to grow up too quickly. Angels can and do provide information but there are strict rules they must follow. The information they provide cannot be new, they can correct misunderstood revelation and misunderstood stories but they cannot provide you new information that God has not revealed to you.

Revelation does not come to religious groups. God does not work through groups, He works through individuals. Every prophet who has received revelation was NOT a leader of a religion when they received the revelation. Moses was not a rabbi. Jesus was not a rabbi. Mohammed was not an Immam or other religious leader. And everything those prophets said was a NEW idea about God. It's just that those religions got stuck and thought that there wasn't more revelation still to come.

Also, revelation is not always about God or of a religious nature. Einstein received E=MC2. You can receive "revelation" if you lose your car keys and suddenly the idea "pops" into your head and you remember where you left them.

epiphany

shakes you to the core

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.

Hmm...I don't apply to any of these, but I've experienced revelations throughout my spiritual journey that have led me to where I am now.

who and what is a revelation for? not speaking specifically of the christian book but of a revelation in general.

A revelation is in essence anything that is revealed to an individual through sense-experience and/or spiritual experience.

Revelations? An unverifiable scam used by scoundrels to con the gullible.

How Smith of the Mormons and all such con men must have laughed when alone at night. They must have been astonished that the rubes would fall for their guff.

The observation above that they only come to individuals makes them doubly suspect.

i hazard to guess that you are 90% correct but in some small instance the revelation is something inclusive.

whats good enough for the goose, is good enough to gander.

so that would mean Jesus is just a prophet, a delivery boy?

i have no problem with the statement; if that is what you're indicating. in fact, i wholeheartedly agree; but i want to insure that is what you are implying? and not to assume.

Jesus was just a prophet, a delivery boy? Jesus was the son of God.

If you want to make the assumption that Jesus was only this or only that, then that is on you. Don't purposely misinterpret and change the context of what I said.

i didn't. i asked what you implied.

i am the son of god. this is why i pray, "Our Father". Jesus is my friend and brother. Jesus isn't my God.

god has many sons by the Spirit.

By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.

Acts 17:28
for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’
