RF is not a typical English-speaking setting, imo. Here at RF we discuss volatile and touchy subjects, and many people have unconscious filters to warn themselves about danger, be it physical danger or malicious intent--which will trigger the fight or flight response--which disables the slow moving rational mind to ready for the impending fight or flight (ain't got no time to think! It's an emergency!)

Therefore, comparing RF conversations to people just talking about the weather (unless it is related to climate change) will probably not yield reliable results. The reasons why the different members of RF are here will widely vary from individual to individual: some may come here because they are adrenaline junkies and are addicted to the fight or flight response. Others may be here to compare different ideologies, others may be here to persuade others, some may be here to just read and munch popcorn, etc.

In order to get a more reliable sample, one should take samples of RF members reading comprehension in a "typical" english speaking setting, imo.
