Richard Dawkins - right or wrong?

BTW... upthread, someone challenged me to contact Dawkins directly with my complaints. I've been reflecting on that for several days now. Generally, my feelings are that the famous should be left in peace (I pity them, I truly do), but.... the more I think on it, the more I'd like to hear what he has to say in response. Further... the more I feel he has a right to answer my charges.

I'm still hesitant... but I did a quick Google and found his official website. Before I do anything with that, I have a few questions for anyone more familiar with the person than the persona:
1) If I emailed him, do you think he'd even get it?
2) If he got it, would he respond?
3) Is this the best venue to contact him, or can anyone recommend a better? I know he has a YouTube channel, but not whether HE runs it.
4) On the off chance that anyone here is already in contact, I'd appreciate an intro (long shot, I know).

In addition, when I get home, I'd like to try reading him again. Not The God Delusion, though. Can anyone here recommend a better starting book? Alternatively and with no need to wait, links to articles or videos you think address my concerns?

Great Show on Earth is a good one, more focused on evolution than his stance on religion though.

I think the newest one would be the better one to read. The Magic of Reality.

LoL... you should read "Unweaving the Rainbow" so we can get a better review of it.

Wrong!

God a lot more interesting than the stale old tripe that Dawkins comes up with.

I think that quote needs reversing.

if people think Dawkins is interesting, the onus is on them to show that there is anything there to talk about. Otherwise they should just shut up about it.
-- God

Read Dawkin's monumental work on evolution entitled "The Ancestor's Tale", and tell me if you think it is "tripe". "Interesting" to Dawkins means logical and backed up with
evidence.:)

Dawkins' “The Magic of Reality: How We Know What's Really True” is a wonderfully illustrated intro into science 101. So is Carl Sagan’s "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark". It comes complete with a baloney detection kit which may come in handy for some.

I'd be curious to know why. I always thought him to be a bit shallow, but perhaps i should reconsider.
Admitedly I read it a couple of decades ago... but, I was very impressed by his ability to blend rationality with abject awe for the universe. Not to mention his eloquence on the subject, you could really feel his passion come through.

Sure some of his arguments against deity like the invisible dragon are lacking... but, if I looked for perfection in my heroes I wouldn't have any. ;)

I couldn’t agree more with you. I will be at the local planetarium with my grandkids tomorrow but Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space is on next years menu.

Don't forget the great exhibits on evolution in the AMNH!

heh, I'm bit biased though... I used to visit the museum and planetarium a lot as a kid. I've always thought of it as "my museum".

It's also home to my first choice school I want to get my PhD from.

Sorry, hopefully it will be mine for a few Days, but you can have it back.
The more people visit "my museum" the happier I am. :D

I'm hoping they still have a job opening I can apply for when my spouse is done with her masters. They have one I qualify for right now, but I don't think it will stay available the next several months.

Who knows... someday I could give you and your family a tour. :jiggy:

Neil Tyson rebukes Richard Dawkins;-) - YouTube

He didn't really rebuke him, that was a discussion not a debate. And Neil Tyson supports Richard Dawkins' arguments.
