Righteous Indignation is an excuse

well, Jesus didnt punch anyone in the face.

He did overturn their money tables and forced them out of the temple area...they were not supposed to be in the temple area which is why Jesus was angered to see them there.

I guess if someone insults your family, a punch in the face is an act of aggression which is really unwarranted on your part...ie, an over reaction.

He was metaphorically tossing the leaven out before the Passover, as per Jewish custom.

And causing chaos in public by flipping tables isn't?

It all reeks of special pleading.

He was zealous for the law.

What he was doing was defending Gods honour. Just as you would want to hit someone in face to defend the honour of your family members. ;)

I don't picture the scenario that way at all.

Look at it this way.....
You're fresh off the desert having followed this Carpenter for about three years.
He is greeted by the crowd in a more than favorable manner.

But as He nears the Temple......there's a change in attitude.
He finds a cord and begins to fasten knots into it.

This can be used for only one thing.

With every knot made, there is a tension in the air.
Something is about to happen and it's going to hurt.

Stepping into the Temple the announcement is made.....'Get out!'
(you may use any other expression you care to)

Someone probably laughed.

Someone probably got hurt....and no one was able to stop Him.

Every Jew that could be there would be there.
The Temple would be shoulder to shoulder and busy.

and no one could stop Him....must have taken more than a few minutes....

He then stood alone.

This would not be the handiwork of a weak or passive Man.

Think clearly His Face......having the sweat of anger upon It.

I believe some forms of anger are righteous.
I don't think Jesus dressed up his anger, so I wouldn't deny he was.
To me it doesn't seem inappropriate at all. It would rather be inappropriate if a judge were happy to sentence anyone.
Jesus showed us what makes him angry, but I think it would only be an excuse if he had not died for the words he spoke.

And I wouldn't feel the need to mask my action in something more noble than anger.

The term is obsolete unless you feel uneasy about acting out of anger.
