for almost 6 years all you heard from CNN was Russia, Russia, Russia.

Hard to say what fuels the collusion angle, but one of the legacies of the Cold War involved inventing Russia as the "evil empire" - the most feared enemy we've ever faced. It was presented as an ideological dispute, communism vs. capitalism. But considering that the U.S. eagerly jumped into bed with Communist China, it seems as if their dispute with Russia was never ideological at all.

Maybe they just hate Russians. It seems clear that Britain hated Russia even when they were still under Tsarist rule. And the U.S. view of the world was, of course, heavily influenced by the British view of the world. This was especially true as the US perspective became more global towards the end of the 19th century, as the prodigal son of the British Empire was aspiring to be just like Mom.

Since then, American propagandists have portrayed Russia as this mysterious, evil, dark land, even before the communists took over. Evangelists have pushed the angle that Russia is "Gog" from biblical myths about "Gog and Magog."

I don't know what the Russians ever did to incur so much wrath and malice from the West. All they ever really wanted was an ice-free seaport and a clear path through the Bosporus and the Dardanelles, in addition to wanting to retake Constantinople for Orthodoxy.

In addition non-broadcast sources are ascending. When narrow cast blogs and internet channels can have subscribers in the millions while broadcast channels get a fraction of that, there has been a sea change in how information is spread.
