I heard last night and have been humming (badly off key) Margaritaville quite often. He died of skin cancer. So love the sun but wear sunblock for Jimmy.

Yes, he was diagnosed with skin cancer four years ago, and it progressed to lymphoma, which has been reported as his cause of death.

Macca posted the same tribute on Facebook. I read it there, and I heard the news of Jimmy's passing from a Beatles source on Facebook as well.

To be honest, I'm not familiar with his music other than his song Margaritaville. I'm more of a Beatles, oldies (50s and 60s), and 80s music fan. I don't listen to many songs from the 1970s. I'm quite selective about the music I enjoy and listen to. On a side note, I know that Jimmy was friends with Paul and Ringo.
