Ritual Talmudic Dance in Jordan Stirs Controversy

Harmonious

I suggest that it's a matter of where or when.

I remember when I was in Chevron, in Israel, for Parshat Chayei Sarah. We went to Ma'arat Hamachpeila, as Jews were still permitted to go there at the time (1993). And at 10pm, there was a whole group of Jewish guys (not from my group, but they were there) who danced in the streets, singing "David Melech Yisrael" at the tops of their lungs.

While joyful dancing might be fun and celebratory of Shabbat, 10pm in a mixed community where there are children trying to sleep is simply horribly inconsiderate, and possibly provocative.

Nothing came of it, at the time, thankfully. But I DO wonder what the motivation of busting out in song and dance in Jordan was all about.

From the video they seem to be Na-Nach's who are known more for smoking pot and blasting loud music in the street than for their ability to be considerate of others.

But aren't Hasidic Jews the "good Jews" according to our anti-Zionist RFers?
What's so wrong with singing and dancing Hasidic Jews?

Oh and Mazel tov!

That is really all they did. There is obviously no such hing as a ritual Talmudic dance.

Eh, probably not. Ever read anti-Semitic stuff? They sometimes even specify the Hasidic and more traditional jews as the 'enemy', in particular.

Which is odd, because within Judaism, Hassidic Jews are not associated with Zionism.

When my daughter was in high school, she was singing in the choir. One time, we went to New York with them for some large event where they were going to sing. In the airport, at one point, they picked up and started to sing under the leadership of their teacher. (It was some old Christian choral in latin). No one complained at the airport.

As long as it doesn't disrupt or make it difficult for other people to walk or do important business, it shouldn't be a problem.

Well, yes. But you can understand that Jews should try to be inconspicuous in Muslim countries. There's no need to put it in their faces.

The response was very weak. They should have been arrested for public order offence.

No toleration for any group to dance and sing. You have to get permission from the Airport first before doing so.

Yeah. It's easy to take their action as intentional. That's quite unnecessary and rather foolish.

Ah, I didn't see any video on the site. Probably because I don't have flash installed.
