Now I understand why certain banking and financial élites profoundly hate Putin and his entourage.
;)

They demand to do their activities in Russia too..

Apparently Goldman Sachs has been profiting from Russia's war on Ukraine.

How Goldman Sachs profits from war in Ukraine, loophole in sanctions

Assets are always vulnerable to freezing during time of war.
lucky that it is only $36 million., which is peanuts in relation to the size of Goldman Sachs.
I would be surprised if the USA has not frozen far more of Russian assets.
It's not about the economic value.
It's about the reason why certain élites overseas hate the Russian government.

And why this Ukrainian War broke out.

So the War is a consequence, not the cause of this economic war....started maybe with Putin's rise to power.

There is always someone finding a way to profit from the current situation while having a PR dept to promote their benevolence.

There are certain banking dynasties overseas that consider Russia a gold mine to exploit...and to rob.
So I am wondering how selfless and disinterested the US' commitment to help Zelensky is. :)

I'm a bit surprised it took them this long. Putin may be a lot of things, but he is not crazy, and he is far from stupid.

You also said "godless".
Are godless elites a problem, but not Christian elites?
Or are all elites godless (which would be redundant)?
The problem is the adjective godless, then.

You often say that the SCOTUS is filled with Catholic fundies.
Do you think I am offended by the use of Catholic in that context?

No...we Catholics are not a monolith. And because I don't have the tail of straw.
So...you can say that.

But I want to have the right to use the term godless, as well. No double standards. ;)

That's not about giving or taking offense.
It's about 6 of the 9 judges belonging to a religion
with a particular agenda set by the Pope.

Nonetheless, Catholics share many beliefs,
eg, tendency to oppose abortion, even for
non-Catholics.

You have the right to use "godless", "atheist", "apostate",
"non-believer", "heathen", etc, etc. That's not the issue.
It's about why the group is chosen for criticism.
I've given my reasons for criticizing packing SCOTUS
with Catholics. (No atheists allowed on SCOTUS.)
You're not answering my questions about dissing
godless folk.

Again: not all Catholics are against abortion, so I don't see why I should feel offended, since I am not for abolishing abortion.

Godless people, as well, harm economy because of their greed.
And because they have no fear of God.
So believers undergo the consequences of their decisions too. :)

I have answered.
Not all godless people are equal.

Goldman Sachs has done everything it could to get out of involvement in Russia. They tried to sell this 5% share of the children's book store. But Putin had blocked all foreign companies, such as Goldman Sachs, from completing any sales of assets in Russia without his personal approval in response to Western sanctions. Goldman Sachs couldn't sell this even though it wanted to and tried to do so. In addition it wrote off these assets in its 2022 financial reports as worth $0. Tacit recognition that these assets were out of their control.

I don't think that potentially losing $36 million will bother Goldman Sachs very much. It's just a rounding error to them.

They want to impose a single world system on the planet. Banking, finance, governance, trade etc. They call it "democracy" and the "rules based order", but of course they and not inferior little voters steer the ship and all the rules are written by them in New York, Washington, Brussels and London, for their own benefit.

Russia is still big enough to matter, especially in the energy and natural resources space. And the Ukraine War and the US/European reaction to it by sanctioning Russia (isolating them from the world system and hopefully bringing Moscow to its knees) is pushing Russia into the waiting arms of China. Together with the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, there's a growing threat of a second Beijing-centric world system emerging with upstart powers writing new rules to suit themselves.
