Sang a Hindu prayer to my psychiatrist :-)

In another thread dealing with health I wrote that I think most psychiatrists are atheists and hostile towards religion. This may be true, but today I met an exception. My psychiatrist wanted to know what I am doing at the temple, so I said "singing", and she wanted to know what we were singing, so I sang "Namaste Narasimhaya" to her and she liked it!

Just saying. :)

That's a nice song (listening it on YouTube). I came from my psychologist and the driver was playing one Buddhist song with same language. It's beautiful. Is Namaste Narasimhaya upbeat version?

Hello @Carlita ,
Namaste Narasimhaya is a song in Sanskrit. I suppose many Buddhist prayers are in Sanskrit too. Narasimha is a half man/half lion incarnation of Vishnu, who saved the little boy Prahlada from his tyrannic and very cruel father. Although the story may seem violent, I like it because it depicts God saving a little child from mistreatment. So I think, yes, it's upbeat.

That's very intense. Yeah. The Buddha sung the sutras, the Lotus Sutra specifically, to his disciples in verses so they'd remember the Dhamma and pass it on. He would give an analog(ies), then repeat and sang a verse or two related to the analogy for clarification, and then the disciples would ask about the meaning and how to apply it. Then The Buddha would give the moral through song again.

I'm not familiar if The Buddha sung in the original Pali suttas but the disciples seem to say so in the Sanskrit Dhamma. The diver is Buddhist but he was uncomfortable talking to me about it (American thing, I guess).

Namaste Narasimhaya sounds like a good moral song about helping others in unfortunate circumstances and environment.

It is a nice song. But why would Psychiatrists/psychologists be hostile towards religion?

curiosity can be self consuming . focus on what u really wanna know . to know why the psy does what he does is a complex subject ain't it? but the simple answer is some believe in one thing others in others. do u wish to know everything he know that lead to what he knows or you wanna satisfy with a one line answer and shut the case .. how far down the rabbit hole do you wish to go is your control. and the truth is even if you went down to the deepest lvl of digging at the end it will give you One opinion in exchange for consuming your curiosity. short cut - find a few opinions out there and pick the one that you think you would've found yourself if you went investigating yourself. will save you time to live life.

In Tx theres a lot of Christian counselors, don't know about the psychiatrists. I had one Christian counselor try to talk me into going to church.
