Sarkozy: Netanyahu's a liar. Obama: I have to deal with him every day

Some perspective and proportions...

Here are a few of the comments by Sarkozy lately:

Blunt language

Mr Sarkozy appears to have an opinion on all of them.

Of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, "she says she's on a diet then she helps herself to a second helping of cheese," he said. Of Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero: "perhaps he's not very intelligent."

When asked about Silvio Berlusconi's ability to deliver reform in Italy he was at least stuck for words - though the roll of his eyes spoke volumes.

Le Monde columnist Arnaud Leparmentier, quoting a member of the EU's European Council, said when fellow leaders pick up the phone to talk to one another, they will often joke, "do you want me to tell you what he (Sarkozy) said about you - or do you want to start by telling me what he said about me!"

All in all, not the image President Sarkozy would have hoped to portray at the G20 summit six months from an election. This was one of the last opportunities to show on the biggest stage that he is a leader of international stature, respected and liked.

The agenda of the G20 summit was hijacked by the Greeks - now it has been sidelined by his own indiscretion.

It is going to be interesting watching how media outlets try to turn it into a story with real political significant.

Yeah they dont like your #1 enemy. Now they are cool arent they?

Wrong forum. And oh my a lying politician. Big news!
Even bigger news because he's a jew. Oh no i didnt just write that. :run:

Yes Flankerl, the only possible reason anybody could find Obama and Sarkozy's comments amusing is raging anti-semitism.

When I heard of this latest tempest in a teapot I mused what Nicolas Sarkozy might say about Obama and vice versa, given a similar opportunity. It's not like Obama commands much respect on the world stage, the office of the US President, sure, but the man, um, not so much.

You're so cute when you show your extreme bias.

May I ask: did you write that because the author of the OP is a Muslim? Because if you did, that would be hypocritical, wouldn't it?

No, she was replying to my post. She thinks I think it's funny Obama and Sarkozy disapprove of Netanyahu because I hate Jews.

In some ways it is nice to hear some honest opinions from politicians, it is a rare thing indeed.

Anyway he's French, they hate everyone :p

Seriously though what does it really matter if different state leaders don't like each other?

I don't think it matters, personally. In fact, I feel a little better about the world knowing Western national leaders don't like each other. They spend so much time ganging up on people together, I'd hate to think they were enjoying themselves.

Hmm I never think of Israel as a western country.

Sarkozy telling Obama he thinks someone is a liar is like the Burger King telling Ronald Mcdonald he thinks someone is a clown.

Maybe it's a North American thing, like carelessly using "England", "the United Kingdom" and "The British Isles" interchangeably.

Hmm do you mean using "Western" to refer to "Developed"? Here Israel is firmly middle east. To me "Western" means Western Europe & America. I wouldn't even think of Eastern Europe as being in "the west"

I suppose I meant 'Western' only in the sense of being an ally of the West and having a more or less democratic Western-style government - not geographical location. Definitely picked the wrong word there, but the point is that I would hate to think the leaders of NATO and their allies and pets enjoy each other's company while they're molly-coddling bankers and murdering civilians together.

I don't think you picked the wrong word here. the term Westerner is much more broader than North America and Europe. Australia and New Zealand are western nations as well.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I'm not going to nitpick. :)
