Saturn (Kronos) as the patron deity of Rome

How is it that in the Greek worship of the Olympians, Kronos is an evil Titan who Zeus imprisons in tartarus, but in the Roman version, Saturn is somehow elevated to patron deity of Rome? Does anyone know the answer to this?

Yes I just find it interesting how the Romans saw it fit to bring Kronos back into their pantheon when the Greeks had rejected him. Then again, not surprising. The Greeks and Romans also made many changes to the Egyptian pantheon when they began to hellenize Egypt. Set began to be seen as an entirely evil god, and was syncretized with Apep.

Okay, I really think to revisit Hesiod.
