satvik food

I think sattvic food is what is called 'lacto-vegetarian' in the West.
No meat, fish or eggs, but dairy products (the cow is regarded sacred in Hinduism).
Additionally food shouls be fresh (froozen goods) and fresh coocked.

Anyone having idea of satvik food and why is satvik food preferred food by sages ?

Thanks

Fresh, not processed, vegetarian. If there is dairy, from well treated cows, so organic. Fresh simply means as fresh as possible given one's circumstance, so eaten as soon after it's picked as you can. Frozen or dried is better than canned. If you've ever eaten fruit off the tree, or vegetables right out out the garden, that's the main idea. Fruits and vegetables start losing prana the minute you pick them.

Yes, all of the above, plus, more rules of thumb ...

...From the Bhagavad Geeta:

BG 17.8
Foods that increase life, intelligence, strength, health, well-being - emotional and physical, love and harmony, that are full of nourishment, taste, pleasing to the mind, easy to digest, well-absorbed in the body, are dear to those in the mode of goodness (sattva-guNa) [ It automatically implies that sAttvic food increases sattva-guNa which is the gateway to guNAteeta - transcending the material nature]

BG 17.9 People in the mode of passion (rAjas, rajoguNa) are fond of foods that are bitter, sour, salty, very hot (temperature-wise), spicy-hot, dry, that create a burning sensation (acid-reflux) and give rise to sorrow, anxiety, disease.

BG 17.10 Beings in the mode of ignorance (tamoguNa, tAmas) are fond of uncooked, tasteless, smelly, stale, pre-eaten, inauspicious foods.

BG 6.16 Arjun, this Yoga (refers to dhyAn yoga , in samAdhi state of paramAtmA) is not attained by one who sleeps too much or too little/ never sleeps, and eats too much or too little.

Hello again. I'd just like to add that whole grains are considered more sattvic than processed white food. That means whole wheat flour over white flour, and brown rice over white rice. Sattvic also means to limit salt and sugar consumption to what the body actually needs. The Indian lacto-vegetarian diet is generally healthy, other than sometimes using too much salt and sugar, and using too much white processed grain.

Apart from health benefits Satvic foods keeps the blood clean so without stimulating or crudyfying stuff (which affects the brain, glands and the mind and may hinder sadhana).

Vegetables, fruit, grains, nuts, seeds and some dairy are all satvic except for things like onion family, coffee, black or green tea, nutmeg, red lentils, durian fruit, hot spices.

I am agreed with you but tea of guyabano leaves is very beneficial in their fast and also during their menstrual, you can read about it at Guyabano Leaves Tea: Health Benefits for Women & Side Effects
Black and green tea belong to the rajasic (mutative) category. In case of illness anything the doctor prescribes is ok, even if it is normally considered rajasic or tamasic (static).

But a yogi will normally take only sattvic foods and drinks.
