Saying: Zaid and "Lord Muhammad"

Hi,

There is a Hadith that some Muslims believe in as follows;

Zaid, Muhammad's servant, said, "I served Lord Muhammad ten years, and he never said 'Uff,' to me; and never said, 'Why did you do so?' and never said, 'Why did you not do so?'"

Does anyone know what the word translated as "Lord" is in it's original language?

Any other information which is known regarding this saying such as chain of transmission, which Muslim groups accept this tradition as authentic etc would also be appreciated if known.

The saying was copied from this website;

Salaam,

If you are unsure of where the hadith comes from or its validity then it is incorrect to assume that Muslims believe it is true.

This hadith was narrated not by Zaid but by Anas ibn Malik who served in the household of the Prophet sallallhu alayhi wa sallam. None of the translated hadiths, that I saw, were rendered the way your quote was.

Salaam,

I assumed some Muslims believe it to be true because they posted it on their "Islamic values" site and it seems unlikely they would put it there without additional clarifications if they considered it false.

How is the saying you referred to rendered?

Salam. It is strange. I never focused on other things than the message of hadiths..
like in this case, the amazing character traits of the Holy Prophet (pbuh&hp) drew my attention, nothing else.. Yet, if you have to know about the beautiful hadith, it is recorded in sunni sources like Bukhari. And it goes like this:

وروى البخاري بسنده عن أنس رضي الله عنه قال: خدمت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عشر سنين فما قال لي أف ولا لم صنعت ولا ألّا صنعت.
the word used is Hadrat (Honourable, Holy etc.) Nabi (Prophet) , not Ilah (Lord)..

also we can study more about Holy Prophet here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/amvu01qpgbklau8/A%20Glimpse%20of%20the%20Character%20Traits%20of%20the%20Prophet%20Pt.%201.pdf

have a blessed ramadan. ma salam
