Schools ban Gore film

OK -- I've heard people object to the idea of global warming on scientific grounds...but religious grounds??

Federal Way schools restrict Gore film
'Inconvenient Truth' called too controversial

This week in Federal Way schools, it got a lot more inconvenient to show one of the top-grossing documentaries in U.S. history, the global-warming alert "An Inconvenient Truth."
After a parent who supports the teaching of creationism and opposes sex education complained about the film, the Federal Way School Board on Tuesday placed what it labeled a moratorium on showing the film. The movie consists largely of a computer presentation by former Vice President Al Gore recounting scientists' findings.

"Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher," said Frosty Hardison, a parent of seven who also said that he believes the Earth is 14,000 years old. "The information that's being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is. ... The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD."

That's what I've been saying!! It's not just that these dispensationalist-types don't care about the environment, or don't believe that global warming is real. They WANT global warming to happen! They WANT the apocalypse! And they'll even work to make it a reality. That's what we're up against!

Do you remember James Watt, Interior Minister under Reagan?

Same thing. He thought it didn't matter if we took care of our environment, since Jesus was gonna come back soon anyway.

Testifying before Congress, Watt was asked if he agreed that natural resources should be preserved for future generations. His response:

"I do not know how many future generations we can count of before the Lord returns."
--James Watt, February 5, 1981

This was the comment that forced his resignation, though:

"We have every kind of mix you can have. I have a black, I have a woman, two Jews and a cripple."
--James Watt, September 21, 1983
Eighteen days later, Watt resigned.

FUBAR. I saw the Gore movie and liked it: it is factual and offers anyone interested in the welfare of the planet some insights.

However, I don't object to any coming Apocalypses: if the end comes tomorrow, so be it! What is there to fear? You must Unbind yourself from the world to live truly in it.

Willful ignorance never rests. How did one parent become so powerful that his complaint sets the policy for these schools? What what the heck is a "Federal Way" school, anyway? Is that a town name? Or are these some sort of private cult schools?

The schools banning this video is quite annoying. I see no reason why they would have to ban something just because it disagrees with a certain belief. I don't get how we can have any videos if movies get blocked because it denies a belief. Certain Christian-Biased videos that I'm certain that the person who campaigned for this would approve of, would offend Hindus, Buddhists, perhaps even Atheists, and yet I don't see him being worried about the school offering biased material, as long as it supports his beliefs... how odd...

Don't worry... we'll breed them out eventually. In the mean time, consider yourself lucky it's not the 16th century. We'd all be hung

Hey, in my local school one parent complained that Halloween was "satanic" and so Halloween parties were off.

Christmas parties continued, of course.

School administrators are scared stupid of being sued and of bad publicity.

They're not so scared about putting out ignorant graduates.

It's scary isn't it? If this continues, I will be worried for our next generation... :help:

It's a crime that I happened to be born in a place where these people are uncommon. I'd give my right brain (or whichever part deal in reason) to live amongst these clowns.

it's amazing what fear can do to people. Especially theists, as soon as a little fear trickles our way we forget all the wisdom God has given us and we start acting like monkeys at the zoo, jumpin all over our cages adn when it's all over we might as well have been pickin our butt

We had the opposite problem when I was in school. I lived in a highly Jewish area, and for winter chorus one year a number of parents complained that "Silent Night" was on the playlist, and eventually what happened was they cut out all the religious Christmas songs, and we sang winter songs, and two songs that were partially in Hebrew. The amount of politics in schools is so amazing that it's painful. I see it even moreso now that most of my friends are teachers.

People often need to be reminded that they do not have the right to not be offended.
