"Adverse Influence of Pork on Health"
By Professor Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg, M.D.
From the site's homepage: Kyrieology.com - the Study of Kyrie Eleison! An old short liturgical prayer, Kyrie Eleison means "Lord, have mercy". This web site is for believers and bears witness and testifies to God's mercy!

Not the most unbiased of sites. Repeat the part you think you can actually support and I'll discuss it with you.

We should re-name this "The Pork Thread"

Ahh as I think back on the wisdom of those old sages Chris Rock and Homer Simpson on the subject of swine. . . .

Chris Rock - "In the days before refrigeration a pork chop could kill you" Very true. Nowadays with refrigeration and knowledge that we need to take our pork chops well done, there is nothing more dangerous about eating pork than any other meat.

Homer Simpson - "But Lisa, what about ham, what about bacon, what about sausage?"
Lisa - "Dad, those all come from the same animal"
Homer (sarcastically) - "Right Lisa, a magical animal"

People who beleive find all kinds of odd verses they point to in an attempt to bolster the Bible, the Quran, The Talmud, the prophesies of Nostradamus, etc. etc. ad nauseam . . . . Fact is, unless someone 1400 years ago predicted the Red Sox beating the Yankees in the 2004 World Series, it ain't a prophesy, and it sure as heck ain't science.

I have read the old Jewish dietary laws. And you know what? They make sense, scientifically speaking. Does that mean they were divinely inspired? Or (the more likely explanation) does it simply mean that a smart group of people payed attention over the years and noticed that folks who ate raw pork got sick a lot, and that other combinations of food tended to produce healthy people?

Common sense tells us the latter. These same divinely inspired people were writing that the Earth was made in a literal human week, that the entire world had flooded within the past few millenia, and that Jonah managed to survive in the belly of a giant fish, not to mention that heaven resides up above us, and that hell is found in the ground below us, and that an all powerful, omnipotent God was somehow threatened by Earth-dwellers who built a wooden tower in an attempt to physically reach heaven.

Any educated people want to debate that all those are scientifically prove-able? Quran is not any more or less likely to produce any scientific insights than any other ancient religious book. It is not about science, so perhaps you are looking in the wrong place for scientific answers.

B.

P.S. Please do not put out a fatwa against me. This is not intended as an insult to Islam, merely a disagreement as to the subject matter of this thread.

Actually the prohibition of pork, tho' often argued by secularists to be understood in the context of 'unhealthy meat' is not the only reason from an Islamic perspective that believers should refrain from it...

Bimillah Ar Rahman Ar Raheem

'Say: "Shall I point out to you something much worse than this, (as judged) by the treatment it received from Allah. those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped evil;- these are (many times) worse in rank, and far more astray from the even path!"' Sura 5:60

It has been argues that this (and other suras) refers to people of other faiths, tho' I think it means people of other times and maybe places, but I would argue that the ape/primate thing may be seen in that perspective, but the swine is a completely different creature, tho interstingly enough it does share almost exactly our anatomy minus the appendix. It would actually be interesting to know what Islamic law says about the eating of bush meat????

pork is like alcohol some people say its ok i can control and not be drunk , and then when the bad day comes the guy or girl drinks until dies or gets drunk and kills others
I can assure you as long as pork is properly treated and refrigerated, and then cooked so a sufficient amount that you will not get sick.

Number one, if you read above, the prohibition of pork, tho' argued solely to be based on disease/illness, has another rationale.
