Scientific claim: "Hell" exists

Scientific claim: "Hell" exists

IMO:

Biblical Hell has proven itself to be a Great Business plan: Hell-fear works $$$-miracles

They seem to like this business plan, and try to impose (make us believe) it on us

I must admit it's a good plan IF you only care about money
Because it's a fact that fear will reduce the immune system

I don't take scientists serious who make below claim about the future
I don't "U.K. scientist says Covid-19 will come back every year"
At best a scientist should say "IMO (I believe) it might come back each year"
Unless they have planned to create "Hell" themselves, like the church did

Note: I can understand that some scientists might have problems saying "I believe"
Note: But in this case he is wrong to make a claim, and should use "I believe"

Note: To downplay corona is bad, but such predictions are unscientific (crystal ball like) and as such stupid

ETA: Thanks @HonestJoe I made a stupid mistake "headline was not what scientist said"

Except, of course, when people familiar with the behavior of viruses look at the data, and suggest that like virtually all other virulent viruses, this virus will continue to exist and mutate and resurge in the population until we can manage an extermination, such as we have for smallpox.

Most viruses, we have not been able to completely eradicate. Hence, they will be back. Doesn't take a crystal ball to see that.

The ability to make prediction is very important to science. That's what scientific do. They analyse data and predict what future data should look like by using something called a "theory". If the prediction is accurate, you might have pierced a mystery of the universe and your theory is well founded and if it doesn't the theory has been falsified and its discarded.

Covid-19 is dispersed into the broader world, now. It's here. The genie can't go back into the bottle.

Why would it just be a belief when we can see it happening around us right now? I'm confused how you came to that conclusion...

That has been predicted for several months now.

The scientist in question didn't say that though, you're just quoting the tabloid headline.

The scientist said he is convinced it is likely based on his knowledge and experience in the field, including how other similar viruses behave. And he isn't saying anything new or surprising there, it just isn't the aspect that many people are interested in facing at the moment. It makes perfect sense that regardless of vaccination and some extent of herd immunity developing, such a virulent and and varying virus is unlikely to completely disappear.

I'm not sure why you had to bring the concept of Hell or your anti-science digs in to the topic though.

Except that science knows enough about infectious viruses to be able to say with certainty that it WILL come back every year. Or do you have reason to believe that for some reason COVID-19 is so different from all other infective viruses that it is going to somehow behave differently?

I don't think anyone has said this definitely will happen. Lots have said it's likely to become seasonal, as some have suggested it may be endemic breakouts in the future.

Don't make a 100% claim, unless you are 100% sure. As simple as that.

There is *never* a 100% when it comes to the real world. This is doubly true when it comes to biology.

But, if you have a 99.9% chance, I think it is fair to make the claim.

Yes, I think that this does happen sometimes; money can have this effect on people (to mess things up)

Yes, that would seem indeed ridiculous. But I never have seen someone make such a claim though.

Yet Brent Mcnealy wrote 'money creates junk science' as if that's all that has to be said in order to dismiss the Covid vaccines.

The ONLY way that we won't have recurring cases in the future is if somehow all traces of the virus miraculously vanish worldwide overnight. That just doesn't happen. After more than 100 years We STILL have the Spanish Flu virus... it's just that over the years we've developed immunities and the virus has mutated into a less lethal strain. Today it's no more deadly than most common strains of flu. The same will almost certainly be the case with COVID-19 as well.
