Secret Service protecting Biden grand daughter opens fire on car thieves.

We Never Know

No Slack
To be fair, SS is not law enforcement; they are bodyguards. Their job is to protect their clients, often times by any means necessary, and the high status of their clients truly guarantees "by any means necessary"
It doesn't say "their client" was in the car.

It says 'they caught three people attempting to break into a parked, unmarked Secret Service vehicle in the area'

Edit:: The news just reported it was parked outside her home so evidently she wasn't in it.

How were anyones life in danger?
Is it now ok to shoot someone trying to break into a parked car?

One possibility is that there could have been something inside the vehicle of a sensitive nature, given that it was a Secret Service vehicle. There are military installations where they have signs that say "use of deadly force is authorized" if you're caught trespassing.

Granted, a case where it's a vehicle in a public area is obviously different, so I would wonder if they gave any kind of verbal warning or command to stop before firing. There's obviously more to this story than they're saying. Was it some kind of random carjacking or was she being specifically targeted? It seems the reporter forgot to ask a lot of key questions.

They are.
(I knew this because they once arrested
a couple for insulting Bill Clinton.)
And being federal, they have more than qualified
immunity. They have absolute immunity. They
can do anything, & not be sued in civil court.
This includes one case of attempted murder
of a man over a personal matter.
That's some super power.

I don't have that. I can't even win in a divorce and I was in the right.

Bah. Not true. I was trained to give a warning shot in some instances.

You never shoot to injure/maim. You either warning shot and miss. Or you hit center mass to kill. No in between.
I have had trainers that say to give a warning shot and trainers that say do not give a warning shot.

What everyone does agree on though, is that you do not fire a gun up in the air.

I thought they were federal law enforcement. But I pretty much agree with the rest.

Oh interesting. Thanks for the correction

Seems like a bad day to be a car thief

I can see that in a case like car jacking and the like, but this was about property and of which Bidens grand daughter was in no personal danger.

Also they do have the power of arrest making them special status police officers.

I was wrong about them not being law enforcement, so that part is true. As for them opening fire on car jackers? I'd be inclined to believe that SS sometimes shoots first and asks questions later given their best judgements. Does that make it right? Not always, but they are bodyguards. Perceived threats are dealt with in accordance to their best judgement. I hope there are review boards that deal with people who abuse this power, though I don't know if there actually are

It'd bother me more if SS had a larger presence, but considering how rare occurrences like this are... Meh

I thought the SS was just for the president and immediate family members.

Didn't know it expanded to secondary family members.
I assume it would cover anyone who's well being, if endangered, would compromise the president's ability to act as such.

We're lacking information. In the future, don't source a tabloid paper like the New York Post.
Here's another tabloid source to suit your needs.

Glad to help.

Here's a web site

It seems there is a mandatory protection (meaning the recipient can't refuse it) for the President and his immediate family, but after that a lot of wiggle room.

A granddaughter is immediate family?

That's what the regular police are for and what kind of national security interest would a granddaughter have?
I don't know that the granddaughter gives a crickets left foot about national security.
However, there are those in the world, even today, who would think along the lines of using said grand daughter in an attempt to persuade the grandfather (you know, the Prez) into doing things or saying things or even something worse.

I would think kidnapping the Presidents grand daughter would at the very least distract the President.

I am not taking a position on whether or not the grand daughter should have secret security, only that it is not unreasonable.
