I've walked along many different paths, trying to figure out what I do and do not believe. At 46, I'm pretty comfortable with that. What I am looking for now is a community with whom I can celebrate my beliefs and I am not foolish enough to believe that it will be a community of one. So, what I need help with is finding that community. For that, I have found my way here.
OK, a little bit about what I believe.......
1. There is 1 benevolent and parental deity who can be recognized as both male and female in one existence at all times.
2, God (for lack of a better name) does not posses any emotion other than love. God is not jealous, vengeful, angry, etc. God loves, loves unconditionally and permanently, leaving no room for any other emotion.
3. There is no Hell. God, being loving and parental would never suffer God's children to eternal punishment.
4. The first law of thermal dynamics states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only changed. A soul is the divine energy that animates and binds all living things. Therefore, a soul can neither be created nor destroyed, only changed. Given that, the "energy" that is the soul is finite and must be recycled upon death, meaning a sort of reincarnation.
5. Human consciousness is unique to the living human. It is not perceived by the soul and therefore, the "memories" of past human incarnations are not carried with the soul from incarnation to incarnation.
6. Between incarnations, the soul perceives some sort of "conscious" state, but humans have no way of knowing what that consciousness is.
7. There are angles, who are both good and evil and they do interact with man.
8. There was a man, named Jesus who was a teacher, a leader and a prophet. HOWEVER Jesus was a man, the same way any human is a man, and his soul was no different than any other soul. He was not "God incarnate" or any more the "son of God" than any other human is the son or daughter of God.
9. Jesus was martyred for his beliefs, that created a new school of theology that, after many iterations, is still believed, celebrated and practiced by many today.
10. The 5 Abrahamic books, the Pentateuch, are the basis of my theological beliefs, but there is room for more than the Nicaen cannon.
11. NO religious writing is the absolute or literal "word of God," but are the divinely inspired writings of man, in an attempt to understand and teach theological belief and practice, through different literary methods in order to convey the underlying message.
12. The only difference between a prayer and a spell is the use of physical focuses in spells. Prayers are focused intent, just as spells are focused intent.
13. God uses angels, "spirits," and the living souls of anyone or anything to speak to us.
14. There is no need of an intercessor or a formula to speak directly to God. We simply speak as though we were speaking to a parent or other loved one.
15. Miracles happen every single day on any number of levels.
16. Prayers are heard and answered at the right (by God's estimation) time.
17. We are all in this together and we are supposed to look out for and help one another.
18. The good that we put into the world is returned to us, just as evenly as the bad that we put into the world.
19. Human love is an equal measure of God's love and is unconditional. Therefore, if I love "unless" or "only if," I am not truly loving.
20. No one is perfect. Mistakes, sometimes gross mistakes, will happen. I need to love unconditionally and forgive the mistakes of myself and others, just as I would want my mistakes to be forgiven by others. That does NOT, however, mean I have to give one who hurt me the chance to do it again, only that I will not wish any negativity or retribution toward them.
I think that about sums up what I believe and how I try to live. I've haven't found the community that believes all of those things too. So, I'm still looking.
