Self Check-Out

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
TRUE STORY TIME!

One time I went through a regular cashier (this was long ago in a galaxy far, far away and most checkouts involved a live cashier, maybe all of them), and she was just learning, PLUS her machine ran out of paper, so everything had to be rescanned. There was a $30 difference in the two bills (the first one was higher so I scored, I guess).

I am surprised a bit at this recently introduced process. The temptation to skip items for someone tight on money seems like it would wreck the system. I left the store once and found a small item at the bottom of the cart when I was loading my trunk that I unintentionally missed. Walked out with no issue. It was such an inexpensive item that I didn't bother to go back into the store and through the line again, but it got me thinking how easy it must be to intentionally steal. Would I get questioned on why I'm bringing an item back into the store?

It would seem the cost to the store to police it thoroughly though would argue for just going back to the old ways.

I have to think the stores are calculation theft loss versus less worker salaries and benefits. I'm surprised stores have self-checkout.
