Sex Education Homework

Was *that* the language that got people riled up? In a sex education class???? if you can't say penis and vagina then, I don't know what the point of the class is supposed to be.

I think the blurred word was the f-bomb, so to speak. (An alternative “vulgar” word for sex, literally). I don’t think she should’ve gotten suspended for it though.

I saw this in an article from the Independent and thought it was worth sharing. :D

A 14-year-old has been suspended from school over her remarkably blunt answers when asked about the possible excuses a partner might give for not wearing a condom.Jordan Fridman, 21, shared an image of her younger sister Mariah’s homework for a sex-education class at her school in Montreal on Imgur. Fridman uploaded the image with the caption: “Two years ago today, my then 14-year-old sister got suspended for submitting these answers for her sex-ed class. I’m so proud of her.” It has since been viewed three million times.

The homework assignment, entitled ‘Objection to Condoms’, asked students to list a few responses of their own.One of the possible excuses included: “Condoms are gross, they’re messy; I hate them”, to which Mariah, now 16, responded: “So are babies”.The excuse “just this once; we hardly ever have sex” was followed by “now you know why”, while “I don’t have a condom with me” was met with: “I don’t have my vagina with me”. Explaining her decision to post the homework assignment, Fridman told BuzzFeed: “It came up in my Timehop. This was kind of funny, I thought: Let’s post this to Imgur."

However, she wasn’t expecting it to go viral. “Obviously, it’s kind of hilarious, but I don’t know, we’ve been freaking out over it,” she said.
Mariah's answers were applauded on Imgur. One user wrote: "Can confirm, babies are gross and expensive. Your sister was wise beyond her years," while another added: "'I don't have my vagina with me' give this girl a Nobel prize."
Her choice of language did raise a few eyebrows, with one teacher noting: "I respect the kind of answers she gave, but the language is a good reason for action. Perhaps not suspension though."

Any Thoughts?
Too old! Never had sex education -- except from dogs and the zoo.

Pretty funny though.

I was a precocious youngster though. At ten I had some of the girls living in the same apartment standing in their windows pulling their pants down for me. I was worried that my parents would see them as I passed the windows.

So funny now that I am old.:D:D:D:oops::rolleyes:

What is the problem with the language???

It is. I went with a "censored" version as using an uncensored one might be an issue with RF rules. The F-word gets covered by the language filter.

I think it was more that she said "go **** yourself".
We're missing the true story here, if we think the story is that a 14 year old used the F word in a school assignment. Who wouldn't hope their 14 year old daughter would tell a guy to go F himself if he was messing with her? The true story here is that our culture is so messed up that 14 year olds are having consensual sex simply because the guy agrees to use a condom.

It's not a cultural problem. There's always going to be teens having sex so it's best they have the most info and resources (including access to birth control and protection) they can have to make the right choices and to have the safest sex possible.

I agree that there has been sexual activity by unmarried teenagers from the beginning of time. But our sexually liberal culture is fueling the flames to the point of perhaps even encouraging it. Consider the class assignment in question. Was there an assignment for this 14 year old girl to express the reasons why she would deny sex altogether, regardless of the condom?

I don't agree with you that culture encourages teens to have sex. It just recognizes the fact that abstinance for all isn't realistic nor does marriage need to be an inherent requirement for sex. In other words, we're more in-tune with the real world these days instead of abstract ideals.

I disagree that the notion that 14 year olds should not have sex, is an abstract idea which should yield to real world trends. Being out of tune with moral ideals and in tune with current culture is not a good thing. There are lots of reasons to teach 14 year olds that they should not have sex. It doesn't have to be religious based morality. I realize that no matter what adults teach, some kids will do it anyway. But, adults have been teaching kids to make good choices forever, with varying degrees of success depending on the child.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter to me if 14 year olds have sex. Sure we can definitely make it known that abstinance is an option (which we do) but it's not the only option so we should teach about safer sexual practices including birth control and consent. I'm more concerned about whether they're educated in the subject or not and if they're making healthy choices. I do not prize teen virginity or expect them to wait until marriage. I think that's ridiculous.

I think this is a true story; a former coworker tells of going to Denmark for a conference and staying with friends from his grad school days.

He was surprised one evening, while they were watching the evening news, that his friend's 17 yo daughter and her boyfriend were dressed up to leave the house...after a discussion about where they were going, which turned rather heated argument that culminated with the friend and his wife telling their daughter to go up to her room with her boyfriend and have sex, instead of going out where they wouldn't know what kind of trouble the kids were getting into...
