I agree with axlyz .... except for the Sanatanis or Smartas who don't see the secular identification in the same way we do. They may identify as Saivas or Vaishnavas but in reality be liberal Hindus or Smartas with ishtas of Siva, or Vishnu. So sometimes the line is blurry. Some will even be Vaishnava on Tuesday, Shaiva on Wednesday. Just as universal syncretists can be any religion on any day of the week (according to them) so too are some Hindus flexible in this way. Generally the Puranas are important in this sect of Hinduism.

The Devi Bhagavatam is not one of the major Puranas. It is an upa-Puranam, AFAIK.
For the Shaktas, it is equivalent to SrimadBhagawatham, and so is Shiva or Skanda Purana for majority of Shaivas. To each his or her own.

Huh. When did Shaiva tradition abandon the Puranas? This is all new to me.

I wouldn't call it abandonment, but more a matter of far less influence than other scriptures, something like 4th or 5th on the list of importance in rank. But again, it depends on the school too.
