I like all of that. Nest year, try the duck fat basting. It will add to the already great process you have. I just order a jar on Amazon.

I was going to ask you were you get duck fat from. Then I read your last sentence. Amazon is a huge boon for the amateur cook. If you can't find something at a store you can find it there. I had a hankering for proper Miso soup but could not find one key ingredient at the grocery store, actually two of them. Amazon to the rescue.

I knew someone who made several fruit cakes a month or so ahead of time and added rum or cognac several times and let it "percolate". I never got the recipe, but it was the most moist, "fruitiest" fruit cake I ever had.

Perhaps a similar recipe

I usually make 2 in late September or early October.
