Shop remove padded bikini tops for 7 year olds from shelves

"Every girl wants to look her best and at Primark we make no exception for the younger ladies. All the high fashion trends can be found in our Girlswear section, no matter what age you are." Primark Website

Is there really a market for padded bikini tops for girls this young?

Should this be regulated or is it up to the childs parents to decide what they wear?

I'm against regulation for adults (e.g. regarding drugs etc) but I'm not against it regarding children.
Just as I think society is entitled to take a view that children shouldn't drink alcochol or drive cars it is entitled to take the view that sexualization of children is not in the best interests of either society or children.
I think it's right that Pennys removed these.

One time i was at the barber shop and across from me was this guy and his daughter of about 9. The daughter was wearing a denim miniskirt and a tight t-shirt that read "I'm so worth it."

It's not something that's generally okay to say, but in this case it's almost literally true, that dressed like that she was asking for it! :p

I think that is different, the content is coming from outside the child, it is your interpretation of the tee shirt not the tee shirt itself that is sexual, as for ''asking for it'' as the child is not the ultimate decision maker with regards to her attire, it is her parents who are 'asking for it'' , but it does highlight how old argument is, but dressing a pre pubescent child in what ammounts to a padded bra, is a very sad reflection on our society, imo.

I don't think Big Brother should be in the business of regulating fashion, but a padded top for 7 year olds is pretty ridiculous, in my opinion.
Actually, why would a 7 year old need a top at all? Couldn't even an unpadded top be considered 'sexualising' little girls?

I think its ridculous.Since our society completely sexualizes breast..what would be the intent behind dressing a child in a padded bikini top?

Slip, slap, slop notwithstanding, ;) I get what you mean, when I was about 7 we moved cities, going topless was normal for girls in the summer where I was from, but it horrified the people of Cork :D

You and I posted almost identicle...

And I almost in fact added I think its a double standard that a 7 year girl is required/expected to always keep covered on top while little boys can run around topless..

When we lived in Florida I never forget i was 6 or 7 and my brother and i were running around playing and of course it was hot and he took his shirt of and tossed it...I followed suit...and I was promply told to put my shirt back on ..why I said..the answer was "because your a girl"..

My thoughts exactly..

So if little girls on the one hand should keep covered at all times..Then why in the hell at the same time would you deliberately try and dress her in something that emphasized(even fake she is developed already) her chest and in fact draw attention to her?

Which one is it that we want to teach her?

It doesn't stop at badded bikini tops. You also have your kiddie stripper pole to contend with, among other things.

Also how about a line for boys?..We could put out a line of underwear..We could call them Boxer shorts with a bulge for boys".

I mean seriously?..Would anyone encourage a young boy to stick a pair of socks in his crotch to give the appearence he had a larger penis?

Not that I compare breasts to penises..But unfortunaltely many in our society do because the breasts are considered "genitalia"..

That might be going to far, however some nice tasteful ''wonderpants'', would be comparable imo .

Yeah ..I like that analogy better..The *** cheeks are more comparable to breasts even though breasts are unique to women..

The problem is many in our society think of breasts as a sex organ and comparable to a mans penis.

It really makes you rethink what a baby bottle really represents.

I can't get my head around why someone would make a padded bikini top for a pre-pubescent girl, but what really makes me want to cry is that there would be a market big enough to make them worth producing. Sick.

Oh, and I went around topless as a child on the beach or in the garden on a hot day, until I started feeling self-concious. I've never considered it wrong for little girls to go topless, I find it weird that there are people that do.

I think it is wrong as a matter of safety, you should protect your kids from sun damage, the ozone layer ain't what it used to be.

Well I think its the standard for the U.S.A and most would think you were weird for thinking its "appropriate".Sadly..
