Should a mature man have the right to marry a 12-years-old girl

By mature man I mean a fourty-years-old man

First of all, I didn't realize that a man wasn't mature until he reached 40 years of age. Certainly, not all men at 40 have reached an impressive state of mental and/or emotional maturity.

To answer your question - hell NO.

I am a mother to a twelve year old. She's a child - transitioning into teenhood.

The thought of any man, of any age and level of maturity thinking of her as marriage material is infuriating. Nothing would fill me with more rage, than someone harming my child.

How do you guys even permit this kind of discussion on the forum? We're not allowed to discuss illegal drug use over the forum, but we can discuss this kinda crap? A 12 year old is not even of age of consent, therefore this may just as well be considered illegal activity and in my opinion should not even be open for discussion. It's simply unthinkable. For most states, the legal age to marry (with consent) is in the range of 16. Anything beyond that and we're talking about something which is considered illegal in most places.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
12 is too young. The body may show a start of maturity but the brain has awhile yet to develop in the person which is why it's so abhorrent with many people concerning younger ages as there is still a vulnerability present. Science is finding brain maturity to be around the age 25 albiet the age of consent is typically 18 where it's more acceptable by way of personal responsibility for how one goes about relations that revolve around sex and/or commitment which is what age restriction is all about.

Past a standard age of consent it dosent really matter the age gap thereafter. Both are mature enough past the age threshold set by society.

As a celibate, I am staunchly opposed to marrying 12 year olds. Given their immaturity, they are almost certain to behave too much like a wife.

Teenage pregnancy and sexual health in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
first sexual intercourse age under the age of sixteen in 2008 was %34 for boys and % 38 for girls. probably out of a marriage. looking at the number at least %4 of girls had that sex not with people of their age.
i guess it happens or happened in many other countries.

all right...but those girls were giving their consent. And sometimes it is due
to the beauty of teenage boys who look incredibly handsome, that's why they feel the irresistible urge to have sex with those boys.

I was referring also to those situations in which a family forces a young girl to marry a mature or even old man.

no, that is not acceptable. :)
noone should be forced to marry anyone. ever.there should be love and caring not force.

you know muhammed was married to a very young girl and there was pretty much of age difference. it looks unacceptable. there is nothing we can do about it from afar or there is no way we can make sure how their relation was from first day till their death. it just doesnt look right to us at all. you say to yourself " i would never approve it or let this happen to my kids". because, we all want our marriages to be on love, caring and respect.

That's the reason of this thread. I want to show people that Muslims nowadays decontextualize the Qur'an and understand that that epoch was very different than ours.
In fact, I have lots of Muslim friends, who are wonderful and enlightened people, who don't agree with what happens in those countries either.
I guess you are helping me show people how open-minded and intelligent Muslims are.

i am glad we could come to the topic. :)
dont worry about muslim friends, feel free. they will learn to think with you if needed because it is impossible all muslims can be intelligent.
afterall, it is good will that makes something out of intelligence, or else intelligence can be an enemy.
you should be able to talk about this issue any time giving the name of muhammed. god didnt let that marriage happen as a coincidence. probably there is a lot to learn from it for many people or some people perhaps has to lose their faith for it.
