Should Death Be Feared?

I have always desired to die in my sleep when the time comes, but now I'm thinking I might want to be conscious when death happens. Death is as natural as is life. Should it be feared?

Life is a drug that always kills the user.

I am not worried about dying so much as concerned that the kids will have flown the nest before i do.

I don't believe it's our choice to fear. Out mind and body gets self conscious and armed with things it doesn't know. Instead, I say accept fear when it comes. Some people have loved ones who can ease that fear. Old age helps as acceptance comes gradual.

For me, I fear pain. I would rather die in my sleep but I have a feeling it would be from an illness or a car crash/some type of accident. Nonetheless, one doesn't need to fear the idea of death. Just when it comes be ready for a slew of emotions.

Most of us will not die peacefully in our sleep, but conscious, likely in pain, or having trouble drawing breath, or some other fearsome thing. So dying I think, can be quite fearful. Death (the state of being dead), however, isn't in the least frightening.

Based on my experience, there is nothing to fear about death when it comes.

Fear of death, as I see it, it a result of attachment to life.

Same here. I do not fear death but the pain that comes along with it.

In my experience, something happens when death comes that makes such deaths you describe quite peaceful. The life part before death in such instances is more painful than the process of dying itself. It is death, after all, that ends that suffering.
