Crud, I thought I'd replied to this!

I'm going to try the site ChrisP suggested, and if that doesn't work I'll talk to the people in charge and see what they can do about it. Thanks for your advice, everyone!
And don't forget the needles!

You can sing this inspiring song..........( I hope you know the music)

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
:bounce

I think you should count yourself lucky they have wireless internet for your work,
I don't work there, it's college. Most colleges have it. I think that it's absolutely ridiculous to block a news site simply because it relates to the LGBT community.

That might be an assumption. Austin has a really large gay community and even before I joined here as a straight male I knew what 365gay.com was. However, I soon realized that many people though it was a porn/gay pick-up sight. Incorretly so, but it brings up a possible contingency; Does the university know it is a gay information site or do they wrongly assume or think it is a gay porn site?

Perhaps you could liason with the local gay/lesbian campus group and work on sending a polite email asking why the site was banned. When you have this information you will be informed enough to make a judgement call.

Others have covered the 'Is this legal?' question, so I would suggest you contact the IT Department at your university and find out why it is blocked. Perhaps the site has certain words in its search index and any site with them is automatically blocked. They should provide you with the criteria they use to block a site.

The point is, maybe they are singling out GLBT sites, maybe they are not. Since freeproxy would allow people to bypass their blocking list, it does make sense they would block that one, but I didn't see anything on 365gay.com that would explain why they block it.

BTW...I was able to access the 365gay.com and freeproxy at work, and this company has a rather lengthy list of sites that are blocked.:)

I emailed them... still waiting for a reply. I should get one by Tuesday or Wednesday, since there's no school on Fridays and we have a holiday Monday.
