Should people be allowed move freely around the world?

Any martial arts skills that you have so far failed to share with us, Revoltingest? :)
Why, yes! I developed one move which can take the wind out of highly agitated individuals.
I sit down.
I've found that this non-threatening posture takes many aggressors aback, if they're looking for a fight.
Of course, this wouldn't work on a determined attacker, but most violent scenarios seem to be the result
of emotional escalation. To calm one's foe is best. (I have a black belt in the art of avoidance.)

Countries are such peculiar, artificial constructs that I can't very well disapprove that nationalities may be bought (or is it only residence)?

It is in the nature of wealth to find shortcuts and rights for those who have it. But that is no reason for authorities and ethical principles not to put limits on those advantages. Or, perhaps most accurately, not to ensure a minimum of rights for everyone.

Should people be allowed to move freely around the world?

Is it right that they are prevented from doing so?

Think about it this way:

You belong to a previously un-contacted tribe living somewhere in the Amazon. There aren't that many of you - perhaps about 1,000 at most. You have a decent, but not materially wealthy life. People in your village cooperate with farming and you get along with your family and friends just fine.

One day people from the outside world, numbering millions decide that they want to move in alongside you. How would that make you feel?

What do you suppose would actually happen if a worldwide decree forced every country to open up it's borders for people to reside wherever they wish.

What trends do you think you would see?

Who would be moving where?

Oh wait. This beggs a second question. Would every country be obligated to allow their own citizenship to LEAVE the country and move where ever they want?
If they didn't, you can bet no one new would be moving in there. :cover:

Freedom in doesn't help much if there is no freedom out.

Good point, though that amount of people moving somewhere would be a problem no matter what was legal. They would just move anyway and what would you do about it?

I imagine it would be mostly younger people who would move and I think the countries to which they moved would benefit greatly from their presence

I don't have any problem with the idea of a sovereign nation not letting people in, or not letting all people in.

I do have a problem with the idea of a country that does not let people out.

I think that's pretty naiive.

Weathly nations would see a huge influx of people, a whole variety of people: skilled, unskilled, middle aged, young, criminal, law-abiding. The nice places to live would become pretty cramped all of a sudden, and within a couple decades, not be so nice any more.

Ideally, should people be able to move freely and live wherever they desire? Of course. But we don't live in an ideal world. I think a whole bunch of other stuff would need to be put in place, such as a single world-wide government, a more balanced and fair economic system, and a greater sense of peace and unity, before we can just open the borders to any and all takers. At this point, that would just result in anarchy.
