Should pornography be banned?

Good point. She better not read any romance novels (which is just smut for women) or have any crushes on celebrities.

Better yet. She better cloister herself in the confines of her house along with her boyfriend so that neither of them come in contact with any attractive people on the outside world.

And while we're there instead of watching other people have sex on a screen we're going to have sex with each other, which is a lot more fun

Pornography need not be banned. If anything some people need to be banned from pornography with their objectifying and general chauvinism making the rest of us gentlemen pornograph connoisseurs look bad.

Objectifying? Well, if you don't like those movies, then don't watch them. Personally I think they are the most boring thing ever
I prefer a Spanish telenovela, full of surprises

Be sure not to close your eyes during, you might accidentally fantasize about another person... and that would be cheating. Also...unless you can honestly tell me that you do not find any other male on this planet other than your boyfriend sexually attractive, then you are cheating by your own logic. I also take it you don't read romance novels either, huh?

Pornography should not be banned, as there is nothing compelling people to look at pornographic materials if they do not wish to do so; and there is little evidence that pornography in general, under normal usage, fosters any social ills that cannot easily be remedied by a little education.

For any kind of speech to be banned, IMO, there ought to be considerable direct and clear evidence that the speech in question is quite harmful, likely to imminently produce life-threatening acts by those exposed to it, and that it is all utterly without redeeming artistic, social or cultural value. I do not believe such a case can even be made for most hate speech materials, let alone for pornography.

Part of me says "yes" as pornography objectifies our fellow human beings; something I find to be intrinsically immoral.

It's okay to objectify another human being so long as that is what the other human being wants.

Part of me says "No" as freedom of speech/expression, etc. are necessary elements for a free society.

You forget the exploititive aspect of it. Most porn stars are basket cases or on drugs.

It's not a case of banning pornography. It's a case of re-adjusting society so pornography is obsolete. The reason pornography exists is, frankly, because we started to wear clothes. I am not a nudist. But if you cover up certain parts of your body, you generate curiosity and excitement when those parts of the body are then exhibited later. If there was a society where the nose was always covered, people might become aroused at an uncovered nose.

There are many tribes in the world where pornography would be met with bemusement rather than arousal.
