Should sales tax be applied to online purchases?

Sales tax should never be applied to repurchases (eg, buying used things from ebay). As for new purchases - while I generally don't like taxes at all, I think sales tax is the best. If we go from that premise, yes, sales tax should be applied to online purchases. In other words, IF sales tax should be applied to personal sales (ie, sales in real time face-to-face) then yes. IF NOT, then no.

Sales tax is usually only applied to online purchases that involve shipping a product. The laws differ from state to state.
