I said minors, stop twisting what I say. Minors are also forbidden to watch pornography for several reasons.
Porn has no redeeming merits. You admitted that the Bible was an invaluable piece of literature.

Besides, how many people actually teach little kids the Bible, as opposed to those who use children's adaptations? I know I never had to sit through the begats.

The KJV in particular strikes me more likely to rush right over a kid's head than traumatize them.

I`m not twisting anything.

Actually I think comparing the Bible to pornography is twisting but..to each their own.

We really can't teach someone the Bible, we can only teach our interpretations of the Bible. It is the same with any book.

Storm I didn't ignore the rest of your post. I have seen churches where children are taught the Bible on an adult level, such as when there is no Sunday school, and I've also seen churches do things like traumatize children by telling them Pokemon and Harry Potter will send them to hell.

I agree with what is being said here.

Also, once I went to a Christian Church and went past the place where the children stay and they dont directly teach the Bible to the Children. They will tell stories, not directly from the Bible, and do some activites. I think this shows that most parents and churches dont sit the children down and start reciting verus. First of all, thats very boring to a child and will not keep their attantion, and second of all the Bible, especially the KJV is hard to understand period, let alone trying to have children understand it properly.

The churches I have been to never taught the Bible directly to children at an adult level, that is very ignorant and the children wont understand anything thats being said.

I didn't deny that there are idiots out there. I asked if
1) There are really enough to be concerned about, and
2) Whether they're really causing damage. Does it really matter what they're telling the kids if it isn't understood?

That was my experience.

The Bible absolutely should not be taught to minors. The story of global genocide in Genesis is just as disturbing as the Holocaust for children.

If you don't want your children watching X rated movies (yes there's sadistic sex in the Bible) or violent R rates movies, then you should not be reading them the Bible.

Not to mention that the Bible contains racism and homophobia, and some people who promote the Bible as the absolute infalliable word of God may inforce the idea in people's minds that it's ok to hate minorities.

I think some here should be taught the Bible before attempting to say whether it should be taught to others.

I do not recall any graphic sex in the Bible other than Songs and that most definitely isn`t sadistic.

Maybe I missed something.

Wait a sec...am I defending the Bible here?

Not for me.

Again, there's a HUGE difference between porn and one of, if not the, most influential books in human history. As for violence, there's also a pretty big difference between seeing and being told.

Whoa..this is something you just have to live with.

No one has the right to dictate what I teach my children or how.

Is this thread seriously stating that parents cannot teach children their faith?

Answer: HELL NO. The Bible, the Old Testament in particular, is the biggest collection of misogynistic, homophobic, genocidal, violent, sadistic tales ever dreamed up by mankind. Teaching this to children will not give them a moral grounding; it will twist their minds and blind them to reality and tolerance. Teach them what Jesus said about kindness and peace. But that's just common-sense anyway.

Where does it stop?
Why do you wish to deny rights to others that you yourself enjoy?

Even Songs isn't all that graphic. How many kids are going to have the slightest idea what it's about?

True but Songs was the most graphic sex I could think of in the books.

Anything I can think of that would be considered "sadistic" was not graphic at all but implied.

Again, I could be forgetting something, if so someone please point it out.
