Should US police be unarmed like the police in the UK? Is it time now?

As long as all the criminals promise not to carry firearms I think it's a great idea.

Sounds like a terrible idea to me. For those who support it, I'd like to ask what a police officer is supposed to do to protect himself and citizens from an agitated criminal with a gun?
Call 911?

The Uk enjoys a fatality rate that is 40 times lower than the US (2013 statistics) involving law enforcement caused fatalities by the use of guns.

Thats not how i read the stat. It talked about total gun death fatalities, including suicides. Not sure what the law enforcement death rate is.

It's too late to disarm Yankee cops. The populace is too well equipped with combat weapons and too busy watching movies where bullets only kill badguys and comedic sidekicks named "Jimmy".

Blam blam blam blam! "Jimmy!!!! Noooooo!"

What kind of idiotic parents would name their kid "Jim"?

Psssssst...do not become a cop.

The statistics go against your claim. Last year marked the fewest police officers killed by gun fire in 126 years! So they obviously are not being shot at by citizens armed with "combat weapons". So why all the militarization of police forces? Where is the actual documented need of such equipment?

Also, you reference to "combat weapons" is faulty. They are not combat weapons. True combat weapons are very heavily regulated and cost thousands of dollars. The combination of the heavy regulation (requiring signatures of local authorities) and the very steep price tags put them out of reach of most people.

It actually was, but I don't expect you to believe me. I lie soooooo much. Except about my long, wavy hair.
So you meant only handguns? Not civilian ARs? Even so, that is still slightly disingenuous as handguns in combat are generally meant only as a last resort weapon. Also, do you have any comment on the rest of my post? Specifically the part about our lowest police officer death count by firearms in 126 years?

Running out of cops to shoot?

US law enforcement are beginning to act more like paramilitary organizations than police ones. Maybe they're killing more perps and hence aren't getting capped themselves. One year of statisics is a pretty small sample size to draw any definite conclusions.
