Should we be free to purchase tanks and fighter jets?

Was there a background check? Is there a waiting period?
Nope, if you can afford to purchase a fighter and one is available on the market you can do so as long as the weapons are removed. I'm sure if you went to Russia they would be willing to sell you one of theirs. Which they have. I have seen a couple of MIG's at airshows. Of course they were of the 1960's vintage. Mig-17's and the US was represented by the F86A. The cost of keeping these birds flying is horrendous.

He prolly had a security clearance which was much more thorough than a handgun background check.
It was likely a long wait to finish the project.
And I bet it cost around $1000/hour to fly.

I agree with esmith :)eek:). Buy what you can afford, as long as potentially hazardous features are eliminated.

I once went to a private 'school' in upper new York state. We had a Sherman Tank -- lots of WWII surplus was on the market, then. We basically used it as a tractor, pulling earth-moving machinery, &c.

These are legal. You can buy a brand new one for $1500. Of course, saner countries have banned them.
