Two things:

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a 112 ft. bust of Lord Shiva (Isha Foundtion of Sadhguru - it is filled with 'samagri'). I think the money spent on it was a waste and the Prime Minister should not have associated with it. We are building other statues also. A Sardar Patel statue on Narmada Dam and a Shivaji statue in the sea at Mumbai. I do not know which other state also has statues in mind. We will be spending thousands of crores of rupees on these statues. I think the money could be better utilized in service of the people.

I do agree with you on this Aupji. Temples are one thing (although I don't believe India necessarily needs more of those either) but I think the money for statues could have gone toward Modi's Swachh Bharat Initiative, Public toilets or just plane taking care of the under-served.

There were three nights of Bhajans and prayer leading up to the actual Night of Shivratri so by the time last night rolled around I was a bit tired. However, I went for an hour, performed abhishekam for Shiv Lingam and then chanted mantras for a while. I will say the energy was quite electric. I am not close to Lord Shiva, however I think we may have had a moment. Har Har Mahadev!

Vanakkam,

Went for the all night vigil... From 6pm to 7am, we survived ! And then crashed into our bed for half of the day.

There was a LOT of people, the temple was quite crowded and it wasn't very comfortable... But it was worth it. Incredible Shivratri !

Vanakkam,

@Fireside_Hindu , your temple looks huge ! Oo Paris temple is very small compared to this.

Here is a short video too of what happened between the pujas: bhajans, talks and dances ~ (Yeah, sorry about my phone's crappy quality too)

The chief priest in the temple is really the best :D he did the pujas with a lot of faith and you could see he was really happy. He loves to tease the devotees and make people laugh too... But he is also quite like a stern father: the two other priests were discussing a bit too much during one of a puja, he made them understand they had a job to do... With a sinnnngle look
It was very funny to see them promply going back to work xD

Aum Namah Shivaya

It's funny you mention the size. I actually like my temple because it is on the smaller side. Maybe the number of people in the video makes it look bigger. Also, I love that your temple had dancers. I love with dancing is a part of the pujas.

PS. I now know who : 'Kitty Miaw' is on my Facebook page ;)

I am quite upset that I didn't get to attend. It is the first time in 6 years that I have been unable to attend. Perhaps I will celebrate one of the minor Shivaratris instead.

I ended up not going as well. The funeral in the afternoon was fairly draining and Boss and I (we only have one car) couldn't really agree on how long we'd stay for, so I just let her go alone. Having been to a ton of them, I'm really quite detached from outcomes. You'll make it next year most likely.

For some reason, at the local Durga Temple in my area, there always seems to be more women at Shivratri than men. Each year the attendance in our area grows larger and there is a new Hindu temple coming.

But for those who could not attend at a temple, in my path there is a saying that any day or everyday can be a Maha Shivaratri. In fact, if you sit and recite the following selections from the Shiva Chalisa, then you can be within Shiva and He will smile upon you and you can have Shivrati even in a cave all alone. You will become fearless, and victory is easy. It has certainly been so for me.

"Glory to Ganesha, Son of Goddess Girija, the cause of all auspiciousness and intelligence. Ayodha Dass requests that every one be blessed with the boon of being fearless."

"Perfect Master, Consort of Parvati the Great Goddess, Merciful, Who blesses the poor souls and the pure devotees, Whose Form is beautiful, adorned with the Moon, Who has earrings of the hood of the Snake and Ganga Maa flows through Your locks of hair."

"Just see the saints and sages are attracted by Your splendor. Around Your neck is a garland of skulls, we see you shine with white ash upon Your body and You are drapped in the fur of the Lion, Your Victory is remembered."

"When Lord Rama worshipped You, He became victorious over the King of the Rakshasas, Lord Ravana. When Lord Rama wished to worship You with one thousand lotus flowers, the Divine Mother to test the devotion of Shri Ram, hid all the flowers at Your request."

"Lord, You looked steadily at The Beautiful Rama, Who then wished to offer His lotus eye in place of a flower. Because of such intense devotion, You said No. Instead You granted Rama any wish He would desire. And this was victory."

"Lord Shiva. When the Ocean of the Universe was churned, a deadly poison emerged. You My Lord drank that poison that would have permeated our World. That poison stained Your throat blue."

"Thus You are known as Nilakantha."

"Today I think of You Nilakanta, the Blue Throated Lord"

... a long time ago, upon the churning of the Ocean of the Universe, a poison dreadful and deep from that Ocean emerged. Lord Shiva drank that poison, so dreadful a poison and so deep, it stained His throat Blue.

When we humans see that Blue stain, we remember. We know that in the Universe, in that Ocean of all things, that poison can once again be churned.

If that ever happens, it would be more than convenient if Lord Shiva would drink that poison. Again.

Three nights away, the great night of Shiva, the most sacred holiday for all Saivites. We will have a homa at 10PM, not sure how it'll go this year. Fairly austere and inner time.
A nice talk about Siva through the ages

As usual I spent it rather unconventionally. As I had a strong pull towards doing something (small mind) for Kali ma. And all the unconventionality that often entails. There may or may not have been "odd" prasad involved. I'll leave it there.
But ma performed a puja in honor of Lord Shiva and though she didn't go all night (she had to get up early for work) I feel like both halves of the Lord were satisfied.
Har har mahadev.

Whatever, do not let it upset you. Shiva and the Mother know.

Good. You are close to it - '.. labholabhou jayajayah ..' - Anasakti Yoga; or already there.

@SomeRandom , Hara-hara.
