Smartest person in the room.

Most rooms I enter, I am the smartest person.

I might be narcissistic, but that doesn't mean my above statement isn't true. I'm narcissistic because it is true.

In anger management group right now. The discussion has devolved into politics unfortunately. My mouth has been sealed, as that's not what I'm here for. But situations like this makes me painfully aware of my intellectual superiority.

That's why I like RF. I'm typically not the smartest person in the room (thread). I think the average poster has above average intelligence.

Intelligence is not the sole desirable trait. These people around me are more sympathetic, empathetic, and optimistic than me. That, I would prefer.
Have you ever heard of the Dunning-Kruger effect?

Imagine being a young researcher fresh from grad school all pumped up on great tests scores and how smart you are and entering a room with about 80 or 90 scientists and engineers that have all of that and years of experience. Or years later, being in a meeting with a couple of young sharpshooters that are as smart as you, maybe smarter, and full of fresh ideas and new perspectives.

I have evidence that I'm intelligent, but I am not always that smart.

I certainly am the sleepiest person in any room that I enter....
Jokes apart, I have never been the smartest person in any room that I have been in as of yet.

I'd probably have to say the Air is the smartest person in the room I sit in. Air flows through and touches more things on this reality than I will ever be able to experience or comprehend in my lifetime. The same, perhaps, could be said of the Water in this room as well. And the Earth. And the Fire. Basically most stuff that isn't human is greater persons than me as it experiences more than humans ever do.

Wouldn't this mean humans would also be that smart, given we are composed of all the same molecules that have been involved in the processes you just described in the post above? The hydrogen and oxygen molecules in water have existed for a long time and have experienced a lot, but so have the hydrogen and oxygen molecules in my body, as well.

When you pour some salt on their tail, you can grab them. ;)
I remember my dad telling my brother and I this when we were small. I also remember how funny he seemed to think it was when we tried it. As well as how pleased he was when we figured out that if you could get that close to birds, you don't need the salt.

An early lesson in critical thinking?

"smart" can mean high general intelligence and it can also mean knowledgeable in a domain.

So when it's a domain I've studied, I often feel like I'm the smartest in the room. And I think a truly smart person is not afraid to admit domains in which they are ignorant.

Tapping into this kind of wisdom is one of the things Druidry can be about. Though leaning into the wisdom of the Elements (among other things) isn't something that is really part of modern domesticated culture. The bones of the world are in us, though, whenever we're ready or willing to explore that connection.
