Yahweh...Jehovah God...the Father who sent Jesus...the Creator...the One Jesus called the only True God”...the One that King David, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, etc., worshipped....the God of the Bible...the Almighty.
Hope that’s clear enough.
Hi Hockeycowboy, NO!
What you defined was ‘THE GOD’ of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob… The GOD of the Israelites and of Jews and of Christians.
I mean, what the word or/and term ‘GOD’ means, is defined.
Again, what you gave skipped is the
definition and gone straight to the
religious application of the definition.
Actually, what you have just said absolutely underlines what I said concerning the fact that the majority of religious people have no idea what they mean when they say ‘GOD’.
First, it is a
TITLE……
Next, it is a reference to a person or thing (an entity) that is any of:
- Creator
- Mightiest / Almighty
- Heroic
- Majestic
- Ruling / Ruler
- Monumental
- Law giver / Law upholder
- Greatest
- Most honoured
- Commanding
- Most Senior
- Conquering
- …Etc.
And then, it is not a word, title, term exclusive to religious usage.
We can say any of:
- The wise man’s words were Majestic … They were GOD!
- The Judge in his courtroom was an absolute GOD - he ruled the case with royal authority
- A Father in his own home is the God, he is the rule maker and rule upholder in that home
- Tim Burners-Lee is GOD of the Internet - He CREATED it!
- The Commander of the battle side rallied his troops and issued those most conquering words that inspired his troops to win. Those words were GOD
- A head teacher / Principal in his school is GOD of his school
You can make your own sentence and see what I mean.
And Lastly, it is applied in religious terms to a
DEITY (
Spirit(ual Leader) whom is regarded as Worshipful, is reverenced above all other Beings and set as ultimate lawgiver and judge.
The reason I’m looking for the definition of the word ‘God’ is that by defining what we mean by ‘God’ and NOT STOP at just the religious application of the word or term, we can better understand it’s usage when it is used in a non-religious manner.
Specifically, I’m looking at John 1:1.
Please try to remember that the word ‘God’ is not a Hebrew word… it is of GERMAN ORIGIN. So what was the Hebrew word that was used that the Bible translators substituted… I don’t know!!
But, I’m betting that if it were explored we would find that it is not just a religious term.
Hence, John 1:1 says that:
- ‘The word was with God’
- ‘The word of God was in the beginning’
- ‘And the word was GOD’
Trinitarians immediately claim that the ‘God’ referred to is the PERSONAGE of the Judae / Christian Deity.
But linguistically you can see that it doesn’t make sense. The word, ‘God’ is being used in TWO DIFFERENT SENSES!!
The ‘word of God’ is the spoken word of the deity… that is agreed - even if it is manifested in a human Being, Jesus… Jesus is the EMBODIMENT, the deliverer, of the testimony of the word from God, God the Father. The Father taught him what to say … Gave Jesus the words to speak to the people (Jesus said so himself:
- ‘The words you hear me say, I did not speak of my self but it is the Father speaking in me!’ (Paraphrased(
But Trinitarians cannot stomach the truth and won’t even acknowledge Jesus’ words about speaking on behalf of the Father, HIS DEITY
GOD!
But then, John says that the word of God was WITH God. Clearly, this refers to the DEITY.. it was the word of the deity that the deity spoke (certainly not a single word… but ALL that was spoken by the Deity including the overarching words: ‘Let there be light’… the
CREATOR word and that salvation would come from the SEED OF A WOMAN… a messiah would be sent forth!)
And finally, John says that the word WAS GOD…
Here, it is clear to me that this is using the FULL DEFINITION of the word, ‘God’.
Yes, the word of God was … ALL THOSE things listed under the definition of ‘God’.
So, now you can read John 1:1 and not be confused as to WHICH individual or group of words are used as the meaning of ‘God’ in that verse:
- ‘In the beginning [the God deity spoke majestic] words…
- ‘And those words were from the deity GOD’
- ‘And those word were RULING, creating, lawmaking, Judging…’
It should also be noted that the Torah (Old Testament) is far more reliable in its translation than the Greek that John wrote. The OT clearly states that in the beginning GOD CREATED… and our ruling Deity,
THE GOD believed on by Abraham, Isaac, and Jocob, spoke concerning that
which is, was, and will be… it was:
- HIS WORDS THAT WERE WITH HIM…. (hint… hint..!)
And:
- His words put on flesh, were manifested, came to pass in the fullness of time
And note that GOD, our God, the creator : Father… ‘Sent forth his son’… What did Jesus say about that:
He said that GOD CONSECRATED HIM and
THEN SENT HIM INTO THE WORLD.
Now check that out again… Trinitarians say Jesus was
SENT FROM HEAVEN as a MANIFESTATION of the word of God… and he WAS GOD… wow! Really???
But Jesus himself does Not says that… Jesus says that it was AFTER he was anointed at the river Jordan:
- ‘With Holy Spirit and POWER’
- and was straightway sent into the wilderness to be TEMPTED of Satan
(Relevant verses from relevant books and chapters)
That he was SENT… Check that every time you read that ‘Jesus was sent by God’ or ‘I was sent by The Father’
… CONTEXT AND TIME PASSAGE…
Ok, what think you now?
