Soda, coke or pop. What do you call it.

Carbonated or fizzy drink? Given we have Cream Soda and Coca Cola/Pepsi Cola, plus all the rest. And as to such, one usually leaves them behind when discovering the value of one's teeth.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Mezzo Mix! We'll leave the ice thing alone. Or I will, anyway.

I can't call it pop yet. Apparently I now live in an area where it's called Pop, so I will let you guys know if I start calling it that. But I lived for decades in a place where they called it coke apparently and I always called it soda so there's that. One of the benefits of being a military brat and wife I guess.

It took a few years, but my husband says 'pop' now, too.

Used to call it pop as my parents were from PA. Then we moved to NJ and I started calling it soda. Now I usually ask for tea or coffee. If I want a soda I'll ask for a specific one like root beer or cherry soda don't know when I had a normal cola last

Never knew that coke meant any kind of soft drink.
IIRC, I was taught in English class that a coke meant a cola based drink specifically.

They did teach "Queen's English" in my country though.
Don't know if that makes a difference...
Edit: It does seem to make a difference, judging from the replies from posters I know are from the UK.

I always felt the term coke was a bit awkward to use in such contexts because it made me feel as if you can casually order hard drugs at a restaurant in English speaking countries.

The visual aid is accurate in that, here in NJ, it's soda. Coke is one brand of soda. My mother made the best iced tea I have ever had. The iced tea was my treat. At times I order fountain-made Pepsi with dinner at my favorite restaurant.
