I thought it would be interesting to ask you some questions, by answering them you can learn a good deal about your Self. I have a great many questions, but I will just start out with 9. I will reserve my answers for a later time.

[Desclaimer: the following questions are ones possed by individual Initiates of the Temple of Set an Initiatory school of Black Magic.]

The Nine Questions:

1. Would you do Magic for hire? Such as spells, blessings, curses, etc.

2. What is your earliest memory? How is this memory tied into your Magical life?

3. As Magicians/Sorcerers are we expected to have a different set of ethics from profane society?

4. How do you handle terror? Have you ever experienced terror?

5. If we are each self-created gods, why do we work with other gods/neteru?

6. What is the purpose and use of a Magical Name? Is it even necessary for a Magician/Sorcerer to take a Magical Name?

7. Is it important to take credit for things you put in motion?

8. What is the relationship of your present Self and your future Self? How can you use the future Self to aid the present Self?

OK, I'll go ahead and answer the first question. Would I do Magic for hire? No. To me Magic is a sacrament and I will not accept money to perform a Magical Rite for someone. To do so would cheapin and degrade it in my opinion. However, if a close friend or loved one were to ask me to perform a blessing on a loved one who they felt needed it, or to place a curse on someone who has done them a grave injustice I would consider it. Taking into account the severity of the circumstances involved, but I wouldn't do it for financial gain, but out of friendship and love for said person. I always take care of my true friends and those loved ones I hold dear to my heart.

As in perform a Magical Rite no,
but really Magic/k is so much a part of everything I do
and experience, it's inevitable
that I'll be "paid" for it
one way or another.

I would spend time as a paid consultant though.
I really think that people should be the primary initiators
of their own magic,
however I do have much valuable insight to offer.
I would love to work with the right people,
professionally helping them to find and define THEIR OWN way.
I would accept payment for such a thing.
It's not all that different than teaching someone
to become their Own musician really.
Honestly I do not have the freedom/resources
to offer up much of my time gratus.
I have children to raise, and bills to pay.

Money is a practical matter.
Money is stuff points. Freedom points.
I don't give it more.... "power" ... than it's due.
It's just numbers and paper that enables you to do more,
gives you greater opportunity in this world.
Like frubals, I'm more than happy to take all that comes my way.

It does not have the power to "cheapen" whatever I do,
only "en'rich" my life, and the lives of my children.

On the other hand,
I would NEVER take money from a close friend
or someone I love/care for with intimacy
or a fellow Mage for such a thing.
These are the people I build Life with.
It is an honor just to initiate with them,
and money would just be a silly thing
to enter in.

Having total recall, my earliest memory frightened all the Magic outta me, The doctor handed me to the nurse and said, "Here he is, Wash him," and I thought he said, "Here he is Squash him."

Question 2 - What is your earliest memory? How is this memory tied into your Magical life?
Most people don't believe me, but my very first memory was taking my first breath after emerging from my mother's womb. The memory is fogy, but is quite vivid. Also I was born on the 7th day of July 1970/ 7-7-70. Seven has always been a very Magical number for me and it was only later when I Become Setian that I learned that the numeral 7 is sacred to Set. In ancient Egypt it was thought that the Throne of Set resided in the darkness behind the Constellation of the Seven Stars, the Thigh of Set, known in modern times as the Big Dipper.

Set, mightly broke forth from his mothers womb Nun in His/Its Will to Come Into Being. Another interesting point is that the name I go by, using numerology results in the number 70, 7+0= 7.

Another point of enterest is that I was born under the Element of Water, the dominion of Leviathan, the Eternal Serpent of the Primal Abyss, the Seven Headed Dragon. And according to the ancient Egyptian Zodiac my Sign is the Scarab Beetle Khepera, the Self-Created One. 7 is also the number for musicians and artists for various reasons. Rather interesting curiosities.

As a side note: My Magical Name (Drakon) numerogically adds to 27, 2+7=9. But I'll get into the Magical significants of 9 a bit later.

1. No, but I would consider setting up a website that offers it, you know like all those scams... er sites you get on a google search? I don't mind money for nothing.

2. My earliest memories are indistinguishable from my dreams, so I would have to say it was sitting downstairs at Christmas, looking out of the window and seeing a group of demons riding a tandem... Sounds odd I know, I probably saw a tandem with people on it, but my memory has warped it over the years. I guess I've always been drawn to the darker side from being a very young child.

3. I don't think any system of ethics is expected. As magicians, we find a system that suits us and stick with it. I guess the main difference is that the magician does this consciously while average joe does it subconsciously.

4. In the past I have experienced absolute terror. I find that if something scares me witless, I can't run away, I absolutely have to stay and fight. Fear triggers anger in me very quickly.

5. Other deities offer us guidance, friendship and support. I think of working magic as being a lot like climbing a mountain, if we start to slip, our deities are there to help us climb back up. If we allow ourselves to fall however, we'll recieve no helping hand.

6. It might sound odd, but I hope my magical name will work as a gateway for me. I feel like I've almost grasped its meaning and how to use it effectively, but somehow it's just beyond reach. Very frustrating.

7. Depends on what you mean by "take credit". Certainly be aware of what you've done and be thankful for any help you recieved doing it, but taking credit sounds like simply flattering yourself... fun on occasion, but not necessary and easy to overdo.

8. No offence, but I'm keeping that one to myself ;)

9. You can see/feel the effects of it. If you manipulate the world around you, then you see effects, if you manipulate yourself in order to change your world, you both see and feel the effects.

1. Yes. But I doubt it would actually work given that I don´t have my personal need/interest in the issue I´m fixing/causing.

2. Can´t say, many of my memories are in anachronistic order. Maybe the dark winter mornings of my childhood, I still remember them very vividly when going outside before sunrise.

3. Yes we are expected to by the masses, and in reality we most often have different ethics. Do as you will shall be the whole of the law.

4. I´ve been terrified by other people, otherwise my life has been quite secure. I´ve learned to fight back, however.

I know the power of terror and I like using it when needed. Mastering one´s own fears makes one stronger mentally, and gives the edge over others.

5. I´m not my own god, my god is external. However I strive towards becoming a god, and it would be almost impossible without the help of a deity.

6. I think the purpose of a magical name is making yourself a new personality and giving it a name. Your magical personality is as much you as any other personality, and they all work towards creating the larger entity of yourself. Sounds schizophrenic.

7. I like working in stealth. Since I believe that I can affect the outside universe with my magic only through the psyche of others, I don´t think they would fancy me declaring: "Oh BTW I just scrambled with your head, and it worked just as I wanted."

8. My future self can´t affect my present self without breaking causality, so I must make a picture in my head of what I predict my future self to be and use that as the guidelines for my actions. But that is just my present self helping itself.

9. I record everything.

2. My earliest memory....

Is what I imagine to have been sheer white curtains
with sunlight coming through
and the sound of an airplane overhead.
Of course at the time... it was just an unnamable experience.
A feeling. I was probably a baby in my crib I'm guessing.
Maybe there were often airplanes overhead?

To this day the sound of an airplane overhead
gives me this... etherial feeling... like...
detatching and entering into "A Seperate Reality".

And I have always sensed, and felt this
desire for that detached, unnamable space of being,
and sought it, all my years.
The Curtains like the Thin Veil between Realities.

I suppose maybe it's interesting in that light
that the Carlos Casteneda books
including "A Seperate Reality"
nurtured & watered the LHP already inherent in my Being.

In my early 20's I called them my "Bible".

It depends on what magic I'm being asked to conduct, what resources I need to do so, whether or not it distracts me from my own goals, and frankly, how much of a pain in the *** it's going to be for me.

Watching Doctor Who with my parents. It has influenced many of my interests, including my interests in otherness and in non-terrestrial intelligences like Set.

3. As Magicians/Sorcerers are we expected to have a different set of ethics from profane society?

I don't really care what anyone "expects" me to have or to do, whether we are discussing "profane" society, other LHPers, or even other Setians.

4. How do you handle terror? Have you ever experienced terror?

Oh yes, indeed. As Frank Herbert once wrote, "Fear is the mind-killer." Yet when faced directly and with courage, it can educate.

5. If we are each self-created gods, why do we work with other gods/neteru?

I don't agree that we are "self-created gods." I can't say why "we" work with certain deities, but *I* work with Set because He is the ultimate source of my higher self. Not only do I work with Him, I worship Him as my Absolute. If anyone has a problem with that, see my reply to #3.

6. What is the purpose and use of a Magical Name? Is it even necessary for a Magician/Sorcerer to take a Magical Name?

Magical names can be used to protect one's identity from outsiders. They can even be used to protect one's identity from insiders, in certain cases. They can also be used to feed one's ego. It is not absolutely necessary for anyone to have a magical name.

7. Is it important to take credit for things you put in motion?

It depends on whether such would be profitable or not. Sometimes, one has more to gain from letting others take the credit. It can make such people easier to influence and/or manipulate later.

8. What is the relationship of your present Self and your future Self? How can you use the future Self to aid the present Self?

My present self is always being slain like Osiris, and my future self is always rising from darkness like Khepri. The present self is expendable, a perpetual sacrifice. I am more interested in how the present self might be used to aid the future self. I have found that one good way to do this is by putting myself into situations where my present self is significantly challenged. Whatever isn't strong enough to withstand the heat is burned away, and whatever is strong enough becomes a new starting point. In such ways do I attempt to detach myself from what most people think of as "the world." In the end, however, the circumstances by which our future selves come into being are never completely under our control.

9. How do you know if your Magic(k) is working?

As far as I'm concerned, no one really "knows" with 100% accuracy that their magic actually works. It's a gamble that is neither better nor worse than prayer. That promotion you got at work might be the result of that operative spell you cast last week...Or it might be the result of the Gods smiling upon you...Or it might just be the luck of the draw. No way to be absolutely sure either way. The most anyone can do is experiment, to keep doing whatever seems to be "working," and to ditch whatever doesn't, with the full knowledge that what seems to be "working" right now might not "work" later.

As a side not to question number 2. When I was 5-year-old I would have a reaccuring dream of a woman dressed in a black hooded robe. In her hands she was holding a great black book from which she was reading. I could see her lips move but I couldn't hear the words. The dreams stopped when I was about 7-years old.

Also, being a child of 8 I wasn't aloud to watch horror movies, but I remember sneaking into the living room and listening in on my parents one night when they were watching the horror movie "Halloween" by John Carpenter. I remember really liking the music to the movie and began setting at the piano and playing along with the music of the movie. This was the beginning of my life long passion for the piano which would later blossom into an overwhelming Desire to learn and to later master the piano keyboard, and to write and compose my own music.

The Setian Magician follows the rules and laws of profane society. However, we are tipically amoral. That is we determine our own sets of morality on a personal level. For example: we do not condone the murdering of an innocent person, but we do reserve the right as Sorcerers to avenge wrong doings towards ourselves, loved ones, friends. And depending on the severity of the wrong doing we as Sorcerers have every right to employ Curse Magic and even a Death Curse on a violator who has continually dispite our best efforts to resolve the situation by all legal means, to employ curse magic. Balancing our Magical actions in accordance with the actions of the wrong doer. The Setian adheres to the Ma'at Principles of Balance and Justice.

Black Magicians are in a league of their own.

No. It creates lust for result and even if you could control your own, the other persons would probably sabotage the working anyway. I don't think magic and business mix very well. To me magic is very personal. It is about me and my will. I don't want to bring anyone else's will into the equation, and anyone else at all unless it is my will, and their permission for positive things would be inadvertently gained and they would not be aware of what I was doing, carefully.

2. What is your earliest memory? How is this memory tied into your Magical life?
My earliest memory is of me laying in my crib on my back with a bottle. I stuck my toes up to it and realized I could hold it myself that way. This brought about attention, so I kept doing it. :D I still have pictures. It brought about attention cause I was so young. I don't even think I was a year old yet from the picture. I remember it so well cause uh.... I did that until I was like 3, lol, cause it stuck with me cause of the attention I guess.

This ties into my magical life because I have always been independent and self-sufficient minded. I have always found a way to knock down the obstacles in my life and find inner strength somehow. This started with holding my own bottle earlier than expected, and ended with me on a religious path of self-empowerment.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by profane society. I observe everyone. I work with the public all day. I note qualities I don't like and I attempt to rid myself of them if I have them. I expect myself to stay in a state of constant remanefestation. As far as what others would expect of me... well one of my coworkers is a non-denom christian. He knows I am not christian but I keep the details beyond that of my ways away from most people and especially the work place. Just knowing I am not christian he had expectations that I had a different and poor set of ethics compared to the rest of society. Once he realized that my ethics seemed to be stronger, so I assume, he now badgers me day in and day out with taunts and prods about me being an interesting creature now. In one day I am a hooker, a great coworker, a dude, a witch, beautiful, a buddha monk, a hippie, a crazy cat lady, a scholar, the devil, the coolest girl, a ****, et cetera into infinity from one spectrum to the other. He doesn't know what to think about my morals and ethics, because they are governed solely by me I suppose. But yes, I think we are expected to have a poor and derogatory set of different ethics than profane society.

4. How do you handle terror? Have you ever experienced terror?

The closest thing to terror I have experienced was being behind the wheel on an interstate going 80 mph and the lane I was in randomly, quickly and without warning ending into a semi truck to my left. The barrier was approaching as my lane ended and a semi hauling *** next to me was in my way of getting over. In less than 5 seconds I had to decide if I'd slam on my breaks and risk a car being behind the semi... cause if there was I'd crash into the car or the barrier as I couldn't stop fast enough to miss the two, or I would push my car to pass the semi before hitting the barrier.

My boyfriend at the time was screaming at me to hit my breaks.

I hit the gas. I missed hitting the barrier and the semi on both side by an inch I swear, and I was going like 100 mph.

I chose that because I was closer to the nose of the semi than I was to its back end, and I couldn't see behind it to see if there were cars behind it. I didn't want to be slamming my breaks with my head turned around to switch lanes in between cars, cause I'd surely hit the barrier if I couldn't switch lanes immediately.

All that went through my head in like 2 seconds before I hit the gas I swear.

I've been in other lesser situations and my reaction seems to always be the same. It's like time slows down and my mind becomes very very clear and I am very calm but thinking fast.

The second the situation is over, I break down and cry like a baby.

Because that is how you evolve... learning and problem solving with others.

I dunno anything about this really.

I don't think so. Confidence and being cocky are two different things. lol. Taking all the credit would blow your ego up and possibly out of control I think, which is not good. I know some people I think strategically build it to insane proportions and then tear it back down... I don't really understand that yet... but I want to try and stay on top of my ego.

9. How do you know if your Magic(k) is working?

Recently I knew my magic was working when I was trying my hardest to ignore it, and while succeeding I realized that something had been going my way all day every day for a few weeks "like magic" (that's what went through my mind without thinking) with a particularly extreme example in a persons behavior I was working with. Their desire flipped "like magic" from one extreme to my desired extreme behavior I need to bring about to be successful, which was consistent in what I need from everyone I work with. It wasn't even provoked by me with this lady. She just at random did a 180 in what she wanted to do, which I was then able to build upon easily and really perform my goal well. At that moment I knew it was working, and I failed in keeping it off my mind as well. It was a successful fail. lol.

But wanting to know if your magic is working hinders it I think. You gotta not think about it, and try to keep on not thinking about it when it is doing amazing things in front of your eyes. lol. That's the really hard part.

In my quest of self-directed self-creation I Work with other Neteru, Forms or Principles that I seek to emmulate, such as Set= the First Principle of Isolate Self-Centered Intellect. Ma'at= Justice, Truth of Being, Balance in Xeper. Khepera= the Self-Created One. Bast/Bastet= the female cat goddess of music and the arts, being that I am a musician and composer. Leviathan= the Absolute Mind and Will that is the ultimate expression of the Black Flame.

That's a tough one. The only time I've ever really experienced terror was one time when I was traveling by plane and for some reason the power went out. The engines stopped running and the plane began to descend slowly like a glider. People on the plane began to panic. I remained calm and thought to myself, "well, if this is it a guess I'm going to finally meet Set face to face." Soon after I said that the power came back on line and the plane landed safely.

I am one who is of the mind that at some point I am going to have to answer to Set and to my Higher Self on how I used the Gift of the Black Flame in my Earthly existence.

9. How do you know if your Magic is Working?

I'll refer back to when I was suffering for months from writers-block as a musician and composer. I did a Ritual Working in order to restore my inspiration. Soon after the Working was finished I sat down at the piano and the music just seemed to flow through me, like my musical inspiration had been reactivated.

This one took me a while. The present Self is the Self that Is, the future Self is the Self Yet-To-Be or Higher Self. The Goal of Xeper, of self-directed self-change is to Become the Higher Self. I think the relationship between the two is that the Higher Self is already a part of our psyche, that hidden potential, the Truth of Being which the Setian, through the great Work of Life, strives to Actualize.

The second question is a difficult one. In my opinion the future Self or Higher Self could be that much more intelligent inner intuitive voice you sometimes hear giving you advice on certain things like life-style changes, encouraging you to quit smoking or changing your diet, or syking you up to ask the boss for a raise. Inspiring you to take a different approach to your Initiatory Work, using different forms of Magic, etc.

6. The purpose of a Magical Name is a reflection of the Higher Self, a Truth of our own Being that we seek to immulate. Some take the Name of a primary Neter they Work closely with in their Magics. However, it is not necessary to take a Magical Name.

7. Is it important to take credit for things you put in motion. Not necessarily. If I am absolutely sure an Act of my Magic has taken effect in the real world, I might take credit for it, but I'm not going to brag about it. Secrets themselves can somtimes be powerful forms of Magic.
