when god breathed the breath of life into adam, was that not the immortality of god imparted?

In Gen 3:22 It says that the tree of life was taken away from Adam/Eve so they may not eat of it and live forever. If the breath of life gave them "immortality" then why did they need the tree of life to live forever???:D
