Song moved me to tears

Could be a side effect of my meds or mental health but this song made me shed tears today. It must be a good song because a song hasn't moved me to tears in over 10 years if ever. If you have no devotion to a heavenly being that offers maternal nurturing, perhaps see God as a Mother as well as a Father.

Translation:

Sleep child upon my bosom,

It is cosy and warm;
Mother's arms are tight around you,
A mother's love is in my breast;
Nothing shall disturb your slumber,
Nobody will do you harm;
Sleep in peace, dear child,
Sleep quietly on your mother's breast.

Sleep peacefully tonight, sleep;
Gently sleep, my lovely;
Why are you now smiling,
Smiling gently in your sleep?
Are angels above smiling on you,
As you smile cheerfully,
Smiling back and sleeping,
Sleeping quietly on my breast?

Do not fear, it is nothing but a leaf
Beating, beating on the door;
Do not fear, only a small wave
Murmurs, murmurs on the seashore;
Sleep child, there's nothing here
Nothing to give you fright;
Smile quietly in my bosom,
On the blessed angels yonder.[

It's a song Patty Griffin wrote about her grandmother, the caretaker and matriarch of a big Irish Catholic family, and about "Mary the mother of God" being the caretaker of all the world: the soul of the Earth, itself, as our universal caretaker. It's really a song about the feminine-divine.

Such beautiful songs, so thanks to all who contributed.

There are many songs that bring me to tears, mostly of a religious nature but a few even secular. I went from a guy who felt that it was not "manly" to have tears, but now I can bawl with the best of them.

BTW, when I sing a lot of people cry.

I chuckled at your last comment there. :)

It happens to me occasionally. This one really nailed me one morning driving to work, it was the first time. Had me in tears, as it still does. It's the mantra om namo bhagavate vāsudevāya "reverence to Lord Vāsudeva (Krishna)", the mantra I use, set to music.
