Sons of God

I joined this forum earlier this year when I started to read the Bible. I'm just about finished it. I just have a quick, hopefully simple question. Can anyone tell me who the "sons of God" are referred to The Book of Job 1:6? Thanks in advance.

I believe the sons of God to be angels.

Hmm, I've read the term angels several times before "the sons of God" were mentioned for the first time here (NKJV) and thought it may have been another entity. And why did God have to ask Satan, "from where do you come?" surely He knew?

As angels have free will as man does, perhaps He was curious how they'd answer. Afterall, Satan was there as well.

Thanks for your input. Talking about angels, what is their origin?

It's always been my belief that they were created as man and woman were created...to serve God. We know they have free will as we do as we know that some rebelled.

In truth, I know very little about angels.

I believe they are all of us. Latter-day Saints believe we lived in God's presence prior to being born here on earth. We believe that when God presented His Plan of Salvation to His children, that we all shouted for joy (as described in Job 38:7).

Created to serve God you say? What is He being served, what does He need? I wonder why He needed "a middle man" as in an angel?

If I told you a parable about a young boy who cried wolf too many times would you seek out proof of the boys existence instead of learning a moral lesson?

The story of Job is just a parable. God did not torture this man or any other man. God is not like a child with a magnifying glass.

Whenever someone hears a voice inside their head they think it's God. God does not need to tempt us. He knows we will return home someday. He is not worried, it is His universe not Satan's.

I don't know if the sons of God in the Job parable refers to angels or ascended beings.

Angels are beings created by very powerful ascended beings. They are created with fantastic abilities to fill specific universal tasks, like the agents in the matrix. They do not come from God nor do they even know God. They only know what they are told by the ascended beings.

I believe we were created solely to serve, love and honor God. Only God knows why He created angels. Perhaps they aren't needed at all but simply wanted?

yep, It is essentially those who follow God.

see scriptures below:

John 1:12
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:

Rom 8:14
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

1 Jn 3:1
1 ¶ BEHOLD, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

1 Jn 3:2
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Yes, God knew, it was for the others (including our) benefit.

Why is that? I mean, from where have you taken this belief?
Well, there are a couple of biblical indications that this is the case, but most of the details come from the uniquely LDS scriptures which we accept in addition to the Bible.

I believe the meaning of our creation is a lot deeper then that. God does not "need" us in this context. This is just my opinion though.
Although we (LDS) believe that we definitely should serve, love and honor God, this is not, in our view, the reason He created us. According to LDS doctrine, "Men are that they might have joy." (2 Nephi 2:25). We also believe that, as God himself explained, "For behold, this is my work and my glory -- to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." (Moses 1:39) I love the idea of a God whose plan is centered on the happiness of His sons and daughters. It makes it so easy for me to want to worship Him.

Yes, thank you Katzpur....this describes my feeling very well! :)
This brings up another good point.....
but I'll save those for tommorow. ( service...:D )

Really? Unique scriptures? How did LDS come to have those?

It's great how a simple question can create branches of more questions.:D

I don't disagree with you but I feel that it's really about HIM and not about us much at all...

I don't feel that we're needed but very much a wanted part of HIS design.

Yeah, isn't that the truth? :D

Seriously, you don't want to ask that question on this thread. To do so would take you so far off the topic of your OP, you'd never be able to find your way back. We actually have four volumes of scripture, of which the Bible is just one.

If you would like to click on this link: Latter-day Saints, you will find yourself on the LDS subforum of RF. Once there, start a new thread to ask this question and a half dozen or so LDS posters will promptly pounce on the question, all hoping that they'll be the first to answer it. :p
