Religion and Science are not mutually exlusive. They are not opposites, they do not pull away from eachother of cancel eachother out.
I don't understand why people would think otherwise.
Please explain it to me.
Religion is not a method to understand the natural world.
Religion is a method to transfer cultural mores from one generation to the next. Besides that it is a term defining social rituals and magical thinking. And I do not use that term in a derogatory manner. Magical thinking refers to a belief in gods, magic, etc. The basis of religion is a belief without evidence.
Science is a categorical method to understand the natural world. Evidence is key and even when the evidence defines a specific model belief in that model only applies until that model is shown to be incorrect.
Religion and spirituality, by definition, is not falsifiable. Science, by definition, is falsifiable. Also, according to the historical record, science has shown, or canceled out, various religious beliefs.
The two are not the same.
