It would be interesting to see what would happen if blacks started running for office as republicans in the south--just to see what would happen.

What is the "southern strategy"?

In American politics, the “southern strategy” refers to efforts by the Republican Party and its candidates to win presidential elections since 1964 by appealing to conservative whites (especially white racist southerners) today trump is using it to appeal to racist period!

They used to. It was Republicans who were opposed to slavery at the start of the Civil War.
And Republicans who opposed segregation laws.
It was a difficult "switch" for blacks to make but the hated Democrats offered them the New
Deal.

You're talkin about the Democrats in the 1960s. Not the Republicans. Check the Library of Congress and see for yourself who legislated what along racial lines.

If anything Trump is appealing to win in the South, it's the religious strategy.

Wrong. Even the New York Times reports how the Republican gains were not based on race but economics.

There really was no switching of parties over civil rights issues. It's a huge lie.

The extent of the alleged 'switch' was around three people who went from Southern Democrat (Dixiecrat) to Republican.

Strom Thurmond

Jesse Helms

Mills E. Godwin, Jr.

IT’S A MYTH!!!

Pat Bucannan and Kevin Phillips, both Nixonites, have either released material or given interviews in which they made the southern strategy plain.

Also Candace Owens, whites peoples fav black conservatives repeated this false argument and she was wrong just like you.

Candace Owens wrong about Southern strategy

And when lyndon b John signed the civil rights act of 1964, the racist segregationist democrats fled to the Republican Party. And the Republican Party became what we see today!

Is Donald Trump using the southern strategy to get re-elected?

He's using an "America First" strategy.

As for the southern strategy, part of it was also due the southern Democrats losing clout within their own party. Some wanted to start a third party. But it was pretty clear that they shared many of the same ideals as their northern conservative Republican counterparts. Politics is about compromise, so it may have been more of a southern compromise than a strategy.

I dont understand how this strategy will get him re elected?

The South is a conservative stronghold. And trump is trying to appeal to those conservatives whites with racism. The conclusion is clear: White identity and issues surrounding it can play a big role in electoral outcomes. That helps explain why Trump became president in the first place. All his dog whistles about making America great again (by perhaps reverting to a time when white people held a much stronger grip of government),

I asked someone on this thread, this question already. But now I’m asking you it.

Are u aware that the parties switched?
