I was on a pump for 1 mg of morphine every 6 minutes and it didn't help, lol. I was in so much pain I very literally thought I was paralyzed.

I had dilaudid w the push button, every 10 mins. And you know I used it.

I assume you've made up your mind, but are you sure? It's been about 1.5 years since my L4/5 fusion and I still suffer from insane chronic pain, worse than before. Plus the anterior part I had cause damage to the nerves in my abdomen. Nothing went wrong, mind you. My fusion is a perfect success, except for the whole pain thing. Do you know how long it takes to find a cane suitable for a 23 year old? Haha, madness I say. You didn't mention your age, but the have been doing work with disc replacement. My doctor wanted me to have it, but my young age would make it pointless. Guess the future fusions I need are somehow better than repeated disc replacements? I'm not a doctor, but I trust mine.

I wish I didnt have the choice, and kept saying I regretted it. But so far it's getting easier to move. I've had the necessary pt here and have a visiting nurse coming to the house.

I would have been but I'm super intolerant towards dilaudid. You're lucky! Hope all is going well, just make sure to walk, wear your brace, all the good stuff! My original post was one of true concern, and I do still have pain. Yet I actually went to a general admission concert recently and did not have to sit down once. I used my cane, sure, but I would have sat down even before my surgery. Perhaps I made the right choice after all.

I got medical clearance last week, disability papers are in to HR benefits dept. Today's my last day at work for the next 4 months, until Mar. 2016. The next 3 days are actually my remaining personal time I'll use to do some last minute stuff before Monday, and just kick back. The pain is getting to the point that whereas I was taking a pain pill once every few days, then once a day, now it's twice a day. Because of the way I'm walking, leaning forward to take weight off my spine, my legs and butt muscles are beginning to hurt.

Oh crap...
I missed the perfect opportunity to make a joke about your butt.

Do you really want to try to get lucky in such a condition?

Hope all is well -- I am going in for a laminectorm/discectomy on Wednesday. L4-L5...epidural did nothing. Onward and upward.

Good luck! Had three. Laminectomies are cake, you'll be walking the day of the surgery :)

I'm walking around the house a lot and finding ways of sitting comfortably. I'm not supposed to sit up for more than 20 mins.

About dilaudid... I found out it's pretty wicked stuff. I was hallucinating and seeing things jump around, it was messing with my head too. That's why I was so bummed out. Now I'm on oxycodone 5mg every 4-6 hours.

On Nov. 9 I am having a spinal fusion at L4/L5 and L5/S1. The intervertebral discs are gone. What there was of them in last year's x-rays are no longer there. I'm losing strength in my foot also due to a nerve being compressed. At some point in the future I need surgery on my neck. Levels C2-C6 are all but gone also. I knew this was coming. I'll be in the hospital 4-5 days, at a rehab for 4-5 days, and out of work for 3 months. The surgery itself is 5-6 hours. The surgeon has to go in through my abdomen as well as my back to put the hardware in properly. He asked if it bothered me to have a scar on the front. I said no, GQ hasn't called me to come in for my photo shoot, so I'm not worried about it. :p

Hope all went well with your surgery and that you recover swiftly!
