What song is your greatest spiritual anthem? What inspires you when times get the most tough and rough? What summarizes your spiritual journey?

For me, my spiritual anthem is Sky Fits Heaven by Madonna. I've been all over the place in terms of religious beliefs - from Satanism to Hinduism to right-wing Catholicism. It's a long journey of striving and coming to understand my ideals. I have to accept that I've had my most spiritually potent experiences in Catholicism and release myself from my anger over various issues with it. I do have a lot of anger problems and hold grudges.

Anyway, I can relate a lot to Madonna, spiritually. She is like a chameleon, always changing. So am I. I personally believe all souls will be saved eventually. God's mercy is more than His wrath. Even the book or Revelation says that hell itself will be thrown into the lake of fire (i.e. annihilated). So I am a universalist in the sense that I believe all living beings will eventually be reconciled to God.

Anyway,

Reminds me that being angry, stressed, or any negative emotion is due to thinking small-mindedly, meaning i only think of the now and revolve my ego around it. I could do so much better to myself and to others. The universe is so large and wonderous that all my problems look and feel so minuscule in comparison, which they are. Controlling the mind is a hard task, but not impossible.

and for the billionth time here on RF,
a song that could easily be my own personal theme song over the years.
Crank the volume on this tune so your neighbors down the street can enjoy it too!

I tend to go with Leonard Cohen's "Anthem", which DS has linked to above. And with Paul Simon's "The Boxer", as anthem-them music.

I do believe Lady Gaga is basically Madonna version 2. Much like '80s Madonna, she also uses Catholic imagery to stir people up. She is also an Italian-American Catholic with ties to NYC except that Lady Gaga actually seems to have stuck with the Faith (although there is some truth to the saying of "once Catholic, always Catholic").

I actually broke down and cried while listening to her songs from her Born This Way album and reading this article. PM me if you want to read more and I'll try to help:
"She wears no poker face about her love of God and affirmation of all people bearing the image of God."
