Inner Peace in Madinah in Praying & Reading the Qur'an

The peace one finds when visiting Madinah is very special

This feeling is strongest when praying or reading the Qur'an at the Prophet's mosque, and even stronger when praying in the rawdah

The prophet, peace be upon him, said that the rawdah is a like piece from Heaven, and personal experience confirms this

It is a blessed city, and the mosque is a blessed mosque, full of angels
When reading the Qur'an, angels descend and in this special place they are multiplied. When one feels their presence, one forgets the worries of this world, which explains the feeling of inner peace

Inner Peace by Making Peace

A believer is commanded by God to establish peace and justice on earth
Peace starts at home, and making peace between people who are fighting or those who don't speak to each other is an important good deed which benefits society and benefits the person making peace

This is an important good deed which brings a believer closer to God, increases faith and leads to inner peace

Be Truthful and Sincere

A believer should always say the truth and should always be sincere with Allah, and sincere with people

When always saying the truth, an inner feeling of peace fills the heart, and when always being sincere the heart is at rest as there is no worry, no anxiety

This is the path of the righteous and those who live a life of peace, so do your best to be one of them

Don't Ask for Leadership

Asking for leadership in wordly matters brings many responsibilities and takes away the peace of mind

Allah helps a leader who is elected by his/her peers through Shura for being the best suitable candidate for the position, but this is not the case for those who seek leadership for the sake of being leaders

Binding Shura is the right way forward for finding consensus among any group/society, and for peace to prevail among them and for inner peace for individual members of this society

Maintain a Balance in Life

When life becomes too busy, and when we spend all week running to catch a train, a bus, or speeding down the highway to get to work on-time, and later in the day have no time for family and friends, life becomes unbalanced

Can one find inner peace when running all week, and when having to take a second job over the weekend to pay the bills?

The most likely answer is no, it's very difficult to achieve peace if one does not have time even to stop and think about the meaning of life

But those bills must be paid, right?

Yes, they must be paid

And the answer is to balance "supply and demand", i.e. if the situation becomes unsustainable, maybe the family could do with one car less, and not have to worry about those extra monthly bills

God wants us to live a happy life, one which is balanced so that we can find enough time to think about the mystery of life, to get to know Him and to achieve inner peace which would lead to a happy life here and in the hereafter

Not easy to find that balance, especially at a young age, but do your best

Treat Yourself to a Walk in the Countryside

When you have no time and life becomes too busy, treat yourself to some time off.

Put it in your plan for tomorrow or next week to take yourself out for a walk in the countryside, in the mountains or any other nice place where you would like to go and enjoy the beauty of nature

These precious moments of peace are very important as they help us recharge our spiritual batteries by remembering the Creator of all this beauty, and by doing that we find more peace

May Allah increase us all in peace

Ameen

Toward Inner Peace

The human soul, if its inborn nature remains untarnished, feels a deep attachment toward its Creator, Allah. It derives its feeling of peace and security from Him.

So, if a person truly believes in Allah and remembers Him a lot, complying with His instructions, he will find a deep sense of security and tranquility, and those fears and anxieties experienced by other people will not affect him. This connection with our Creator is indeed indispensable ...

A Balanced Life

A balanced life is one where there is time for work, and enough time for rest, family, friends, leisure, reading, contemplating, learning, helping others and enough time for our relation with our Creator.

Today's globalized economy gives most people little time for non-work related activities which is one of the reasons many people can't find inner peace: life is simply unbalanced, and there is little time left for other important aspects in life

Try to find the balance between the material and the spiritual, the personal and the social, between living this life and preparing for the next life

This balance is very important for inner peace

No to Worries and Anxiety

The pressures of modern life in the city make most people worry about tomorrow, about their jobs, careers, bills, mortgage, health, pension, ...etc

It's important to plan ahead, and it's important to do one's best, but after that, at the end of the day, it's God who decides: the final results are in His hands

So why worry?

One of the six articles of faith in Islam is the belief in measured destiny. We know that our sustenance was determined before we were born. We also know that the length of our life was fixed and that we can't change it

So why worry?

Trust in God, ask Him for assistance and support, then sit back and relax

What He has chosen for you is the best, even if you don't know it

He is The All-Wise

Good Company

No doubt that our friends and the people we deal with on a regular basis have an important impact on our lives

Good friends who are conscious of Allah and do what pleases Him are the best friends one should try to keep. This type of friend will give sincere advice when advice is urgently needed, and will share good ideas and suggestions which bring us closer to Allah, which leads to inner peace

If you know of a friend like that, do your best to develop this friendship till it reaches a stronger level of brotherhood / sisterhood in Islam, which is a very precious gift to have

Remember: This Life is a Transition

If our main focus is to get the maximum material benefit out of this life, we will not find inner peace.

The heart of a believer is either filled with the love of this world or the love of God. The more space you make in your heart for the love of this world it will be at the expense of your love for God.

This worldly life is a mere transition, and what counts is not the wealth we gather here, as we won't take it with us to the hereafter, but the inner peace which results from the love of God and makes us live a happy life here and in the hereafter

This life is like a bridge we are walking over. Don't get too attached to the bridge and build your house over the bridge, but be wise and find out really counts in this life ...

True Richness

True success and wealth is found in the peace and satisfaction which results from sincerity in faith and practice.

The contentment of the heart is what makes a person realize and appreciate this true richness. The Prophet described this richness in another hadith, where he said,

“Whoever amongst you wakes up, secure in his home, healthy in his body, having the bare amount of food that he requires for the day, then it is as if the entire world has been captured for him, with all that it contains!”

(Hadith in Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Security, health and provision for the day is enough for a believer to attain contentment and inner peace

Understanding the True Nature of this World

Allah informs us in the Qur'an of the true nature of this world:

“Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children – like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion.” (Quran 57:20)

In this verse, God informs us of the true nature of this world, and what it is really based on, and He explains its end, and the end of the people in it. He informs us that it is a mere play and amusement, so our bodies play in it, and our hearts are amused at it. And we see that this is exactly what the people that are following this world are upon, so you find that they have wasted their entire lives so that they can amuse their hearts. They are in total ignorance about remembering God, and what they are about to face of rewards and punishments (in the Hereafter). You see them taking their religion as an amusement and pastime.

And this is in contrast to the people of awareness, and the ones that strive for the Hereafter. Their hearts are alive with the remembrance of God, and His knowledge, and His love. And they have busied themselves with actions that will bring them closer to God, whether those actions will benefit themselves only, or also others.

When one "wakes-up" and understands the true nature of this world, an important change follows in the hearts of believers as they come back to life with the remembrance of Allah, which leads to inner peace

Plan for Tomorrow, but Live Within the Scope of Today

Many people worry about what they will do next year, or 20 years from now when they will be on pension

These sorts of worries are counter-productive, and increase anxiety, which leads to a decrease in inner peace

It's good to plan ahead, to save for a rainy day and to do one's best in order to prosper, but after that a believer simply has to accept the outcome which God chooses for him/her

If you do not live within the scope of today, your thoughts will be scattered, your affairs will become confused, and your anxiety will increase.

These realities are explained in the following hadith:

“When you are in the evening, do not expect to see the morning, and when you are in the morning, do not expect to see the evening.” (Hadith in Al-Bukhari)

By taking this approach, a believer lives day to day, doing his best each day to please Allah, as no one is sure that we will be here tomorrow

There is another hadith where Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, advised Muslims to work in this world as if one would live forever, and to work for the hereafter as if one were to die tomorrow

And that's the right balance to take, in doing one's best for life in this world, but accepting the end result and not worrying about tomorrow, and doing one's best for the hereafter

That is the right balance which leads to a happy life here and in the hereafter, a balanced life which leads to peace

Being Thankful

Being thankful is a great virtue which brings a believer closer to Allah

We can sometimes feel anxiety and have worries about the future, and what may or may not happen tomorrow or next month

But why worry about the future when we don't know what God has in-store for us?

Maybe tomorrow will be much better than today. So why not trust in God, and ask Him of His bounty

Meanwhile, try to be thankful for what you have today. We have so many blessings which many people don't have

And don't compare with those who have more than you, but remember those who have less, much less, and be thankful, because you may have been in their position

Being thankful to Allah and remembering all His bounties brings us closer to Him, and this leads to a feeling of inner peace

Prostrating to Allah

The closest a believer is to Allah is in prostration

This is mentioned in a Hadith, and in the Qur'an Allah tells believers (prostrate and come closer)

Prostration can be during prayers and outside of prayers, and in both cases it is highly recommended to ask Allah for His Mercy, Forgiveness and ask Him for all what we need in this world and the hereafter

Being closer to Allah increases faith in the heart, and brings a feeling of inner peace
