I've been a hard core fan since I was a small child. But, I will not be watching. I'm boycotting CBS because of their dirty tactics of making Americans pay for CBS All Access to see it, but allowing the rest of the planet (except Canada) to watch it on Netflix. People with limited incomes, can't afford to add another streaming service with per month fee just for a single show. Shame on CBS!

If you're vexed by the same thing I see, it's going to always be the case that
technology will be backward in a way which requires the captain or senior
officers to do something a probe could do. Stories demand human drama,
even if it means ignoring good judgement or appropriate technology.
To be honest I think Seth McFarlane's Orvil is more Trek like than this show. Granted more self aware of its silliness.
I agree. And, in spite of some clunkiness have managed to surprise me with good plots. The last one especially had an ending that surprised me. I had expected a classic ending but was actually happy not to get it.

I find The Orville to lack compelling characters.
It's funny, but it seems more a vehicle to create opportunities for jokes.
It has the look of Star Trek, but not the feel.
I agree.
Yeah. I think the original series had the best characters, stories, and sense of humanity despite the lack of CGI technology. A well-told story sparks the imagination, something special effects can never make up for.

I've been enjoying it a lot. Seth copied the Trek formula and added his own humor to it.

Wasn't too impressed I think they overdid it on the special effects and the story was kind of hard to follow.

I only saw a few scenes, and it didn't seem like what was typical of Star Trek. It looked too generic, like the hordes of other 2010s sci-fi shows. I may be wrong in my presumption, as Voyager, my favorite Star Trek series, started out being only decent before it really kicked into motion.
