Star Trek Quotes

What are your favorite Star Trek quotes and why?

I'll start with:

In an insane society, a sane man will appear to be insane. ~ Mr. Spock

I really like this one because I often feel as though society has indeed gone insane.

Polyanna
"What does God need with a Starship?"

Edit: Oh yeah, and why... Because it's perfect. In the face of what most would see as undeniable proof, something didn't seem right, so Kirk questioned.

Captain, I must protest! I am not a merry man!

-Worf

No philosophical reason that I like this one (I'll get into those later). Rather, it's such a perfect summation of the character, and Michael Dorn hits just the right note of wounded dignity while dressed up as one of Robin Hood's followers.

Yeah but it was a bit predictable due to Roddenberry's atheism. Great line though, so very Kirk.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
This is from when Capt. Picard is judged by Q for crimes against humanity....

Picard to Q : "I refuse to believe the universe is so poorly designed that your in charge!"

One of my faves! :D

You are--and always have been--my friend. I am--and always shall be--yours.

-Spock to Kirk, death scene, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

The (seemingly) final summation of decades worth of working and fighting by each others' side, stated simply and touchingly.

Dang it RemnanteK, you beat me to it....guess I'll have to go with #2:

"Someone once said...'Don't try to be a great man...just be a man. And let history make its own judgements.'" -Riker, quoting Zefram Cochrane

I don't see why that should matter.

Roddenberry's atheism didn't matter but because it was so obvious the movie lost it's magic. There was no mystery or possiblity for wonder. For those of us who already knew and understood Roddenberry, the moment we saw what the plot entailed the entire movie was revealed. We knew exactly what was going to happen. So when Kirk said that line it was more of a "well, what else could he have said" moment. Still a great line and totally Kirk, but as a movie it was a bit of a let down.

Also note, I have no problem with Roddenberry allowing his personal beliefs to enter the movie, in fact I applaud him for doing so. After all, Star Trek was meant to be an exploration of his personal beliefs on politics, religion and the human condition. This one was just a bit too transparent for those already endoctrinated.

"That green-blooded son of a b****! It's his revenge for all those arguments he lost!"

-Dr McCoy, on finding that he's carrying around Spock's katra.
